Can the old painting style be replicated?

Sometimes I feel that the new otomategame series doesn't quite capture my interest. The artist I like has undergone a significant change in style over the past few years. I really miss her previous clean and delicate style. Now the lines seem more solid, and the colors are not as transparent as before. The voice actors I like are mostly in sub now. I really wish to see a work with the style similar to ten years ago. I'm quite nostalgic.

I first encountered otome games almost 10 years ago. Back then, most artists used hand-drawn art, with a few using digital art. The art style was full of transparency, with strong lines and expressive facial features—it was like appreciating a painting.

For example, the original illustrator for Hakuoki: Kazuki Yone (カズキヨネ).

Her art style is different now; it's improved, not that it's bad. However, with most modern art being digitally created and edited, there's a noticeable difference.

Times have progressed; even AI can create images quickly. I still prefer the fully hand-drawn artwork of the past; it felt more personal.

I'm not necessarily talking otome on this sentence, but I've seen a lot of old-styled retro visual novels and I've seen artists whose artstyles are influenced by other artists or an era. While I miss some things due to nostalgia as well, as an aspiring artist myself, I know it's inevitable for people's artstyles to change and I want to see artists evolve and improve (preferably without generative AI).

But to answer the question of this topic: yes, any old artstyles can be replicated. But only if people want to and love the artstyles enough to be influenced by it.

I suppose it depends on the artist. All artists want to evolve so in early stages they experiment more with their styles. Some even keep evolving all the time to go with the current trends. If an artist likes an old style painting, they'll use it.
