There isn't much to talk about at the moment, but I was wondering how people feel about Algorithm Prescription. They just released a demo for the game. It's a kind of unknown company and team (at least, in the otome game scene). I'll be trying out the demo in Japanese, but it's also available in English and Chinese, so I'm curious about the English TL quality if anyone has tried it. I haven't really seen people talk about this, everyone's too busy thinking about Crazy Chain and some other releases. Would love to see any kind of discussion around this!

I've yet to get to playing the demo but I plan to play the demo and the actual game back to back when the game is released, since they stated for the demo that "in this free demo, the story will be told from a different perspective than the full version, depicting the daily life of the protagonist, *Cocoro*, and the characters they interact with", which means there will be unique content, something I don't think I've ever seen in a demo before.

Oh, I've played demo. The whole "feeling strong emotions is a bad thing, no matter what kind of emotions they are" sounded really interesting! In the demo you play as a side character and have a chance to speak with MC and LI's and get to know them before main game. Eng translation looked fine to me, but I'm not a native speaker. At least it's not mtl.

Things I liked: story (can't wait to see what will happen in the main game), demo's MC (hope she is in the game as well, she is nice), character's sprites and cg's (beautiful)

Questionable things: backgrounds are laughable (it looks like ps1 game), in 30 minutes main game's MC has been saved from: coffee, cat, stairs and a bump in a pavement as if they were bandits trying to hurt her (hope it's not the theme for the whole game, plz).

In LI's there are only red, redder and the reddest flags, so all yandere and やばい人 enjoyers will have a great time with this game 😅

This is background example btw ↓

I hadn't heard about this game before and started playing the demo after seeing this thread! :D

So far I haven't been able to play much and only reached the first choice in the demo (thought this would be a good occasion to see medical JP vocab and spent an hour fistfighting my text hooker's plugins instead of playing lol), so I'll come back to this thread once I'm done playing through all of the demo to give my full thoughts. For now, though, I will say the premise itself is interesting, and I'm excited to hear the LIs considering the cast list!

Thank you for the discovery!

Ooh thanks for pointing this out! Hopefully the English translation is well done :)

First of all, I was surprised that there is no text speed setting. I assumed this was a standard feature in all VNs. It made me wonder if the creators didn't put much thought into the user experience.

The character visuals are beautiful and a delight to look at. I especially like Akuto's still image. You can really feel his charming appeal.
I am a bit confused by the difference in quality between the characters and the backgrounds, but I suppose I will get used to it eventually. Maybe.

As for the story, it was a bit disappointing. At least for me. It only managed to give a slight glimpse into the atmosphere and a small part of the world.

I've read the demo since posting this thread!

I was definitely similarly surprised by the lack of text speed setting. It's the first thing I check in a vn. There's no options for window size, so I couldn't play the game in windowed mode either. I also wanted to increase the voice acting volume, so I had to turn up the volume for each character individually. I don't normally play demos, so I don't know if the lack of options is supposed to be alarming or not. It just gave a bit of a bad impression.

I thought the protagonist of the demo was pretty cute (maybe even cuter than the actual protagonist) but the demo itself was short and nothing too exciting happened. It's basically a teaser. I do think the setting is interesting, but I don't know if they'll really focus on it too much or if it'll be overshadowed by the romance.

Also, there are credits for all the localizations in the game!

I finally finished playing the demo including the extra scenarios, so I can give my full thoughts on it.

I'll start with the positives: I really enjoy the voice cast, I think the character designs are great, and I think the way the developers split the demo is interesting, as it allows us to get a glimpse of the LIs from different perspectives. To be honest, I think I'm also biased towards Kou and think she's a delight, so I liked the idea of playing as her for the main action of the demo.

I also think the premise is intriguing and makes me wonder if there will be some kind of outlaw situation when the MC's relationship with one of the LIs reaches its peak since the AI system in this universe seems to be indiscriminate when it comes to any kind of intense emotion.

I like how the LIs are all different shades of worrying. The entire time I played the demo I kept joking about something a LI would do or say like "I'm sure this isn't worrying and he can be trusted!" with my friends. So far, my favorite LI is Tachibana, and Akuto is my least favorite (which kind of upsets me because I love his voice. Alas, his personality just didn't make it for me).

However, there are some aspects of the demo that I didn't like.

I will agree with the other people here that the game settings feel lacking. I would have expected more than mostly glorified volume and language settings for a visual novel.

The presentation feels kind of amateurish, though I hope that those aspects will improve with the game's full release. The main offender that people have mentioned already is the contrast between the backgrounds and the character art: some of the backgrounds look very jarring and almost low-res in contrast with the characters. Some character sprites look unfinished too, especially Tachibana's indoors sprite that has his hands left completely unshaded. Also, this is purely personal, but spare for a few tracks, I personally find the music in the demo to be very grating. Some tracks sound like poorly-made royalty-free music (which hurts to say because I know some royalty-free music out here goes hard), and when you reach the end of a track, it doesn't even loop, the game is silent for a few secs before starting the track back up.

The demo itself also feels very abrupt. I'm used to demos that end with screens saying "This was the demo for [game], thank you for playing and look forward to the full game!" and similar things, but in this demo, whenever you finish one of the paths, you're just sent directly to the title screen with no warning. Talk about a cold dismissal.

As for the writing, I think that it feels heavy-handed on the exposition dump. While I can see the interview and brochure-making excuse as a good crutch to introduce the settings and the concepts in the game, it's also incredibly boring to me and is awkward to read in the moment; I think I would have preferred something more organic. The writing is also ridiculously heavy-handed when it comes to the characters and I think Tachibana's writing is the biggest offender of that. I am sure that the "cleaner" who 100% seriously claims to be about 100 years old, talks about stuff that happened 50 years ago like it was yesterday, is strong enough to crack mugs and break doorknobs just by interacting with them and is ruthless when it comes to violence is human and can be trusted! Surely he's not some kind of 100-something-y/o murderbot considering androids are confirmed to exist in this world!

I played in Japanese so I'm not sure how the English TL holds up.

Overall, I'd say this is... kind of mid, for a lack of a better word? I have felt things while playing this demo, some more positive than others, and I recognize that my qualms with the demo can be chalked up to this game being the company's first. Still, I'm not sure if I'd be willing to give the full game a try when it releases, there wasn't something about the demo that made me feel like I HAD to play more of it. If I do decide to play the full game, it will most likely be low on my priority list.

I played the additional content. After doing so, my impression remains the same as before. I understand that the story has an unsettling atmosphere, but I wanted to know more about what kind of narrative it would lead to. If I could have imagined what happens next, I would have been able to look forward to the release of this game.

In this playthrough, I noticed that the character sprites are blurry. I hope this is just a bug. It is a shame because the artwork is beautiful.
