AI art in otome games

I'm not a big fan of Ai art in general. I think it lacks some degree of uniqueness to be enjoyable.

I just think it looks cheap and lazy. Pass.
Also curious: how about human sprites with AI backgrounds?
Wondering what you think.

I don't think ai characters should be allowed but I'm okay with ai assets like backgrounds and objects.

I don't support it as it steal the artwork of artist, so I won't play an otome game with ai art. Plus, I won't buy something that will hurt artist as it will impact their wage living (and also it will inherently encourage compagny to go that route of taking artwork of artist and it will reduce chances for artists to keep doing their job).

As visual novels and otome games are becoming more mainstream I've noticed a LOT of people jumping on the bandwagon and throwing out AI images which is sickening to me. Visual novels are an art project based on artistic and writing ability and if you're passionate about it you should either use payed assets or if you have the funds, contact artists.

As soon as I read it has AI I skip it. It takes away any interest I have and makes me question if perhaps the plot and writing could be AI generated also.

I'm personally against the usage of AI in art or creative fields (so this also goes for things like writing, voice acting, music, etc). There are the many ethical issues, like artists getting their work stolen and trained on without their consent, or them losing jobs because people don't want the cost of hiring actual humans (among many more issues). But even just on a fundamental level, I think AI art lacks the soul and humanity that art created by humans inherently has. Art is something that people pour their souls into, painstakingly crafting every detail to match their vision and deliver the intent they want to convey. This just cannot be replicated by AI. It takes from art by real people and removes their humanity and original intent from it before vaguely assembling it together to fill a prompt. It just lacks the emotion, the very specific intent and decision making of something created by humans, which is essential in art (and in terms of otome, important to the rest of the game which is a piece of art in itself). I understand why some (especially indie) developers may use generative AI for art, but I still cannot support it.

that's a big no from me too, especially if it's undisclosed. voltage did this with red bell's lament. when people pointed the obvious AI usage out, they "changed" the background art to something that was still AI generated but less "noticeable". i was totally unaware of the AI backgrounds when i started the game and after learning about it, it completely killed my interest in continuing it

Otome games thrive on passion and craftsmanship, and AI art just can't replicate that human spark.

im not OK with AI assets in otome games or any visual novel works in general :(

i played dark auction bcs i thought they have such a nice art for their charas... and then mid main story... boom! AI assets :(( i rage quit after that

I don't like it but might considering it if the AI art is refined enough to be consistent through the game, not just some one-timed prompt art to be inserted in game. If developer shows such an effort in AI art enough for me to see it, I'll play it. (Well, story has to be good, too.)
Or, the AI art is for something like a background and soundtrack.

AI for backgrounds or music is fine, but using it for characters just feels off.

I personally don't mind AI use for improving already finished art to add small details for example, or just use for an inspiration to scribble ideas. For me, seeing non-perfect human work is times more enjoyable than cheap AI, the style of artist is often quite easy to spot in comparison to AI (for now, at least).

I hate when AI is used at all but I might give it a chance if they're very clear about how and where it's used. I hate it even more when it's not disclosed. The biggest no-no for me is when AI use gets pointed out with evidence of it but the dev denies it without providing their own proof or they claim that it's only a small part and because they denied using AI there will be people defending them saying no AI was used; it's the worst if they used AI and lied about not using it.

I actually don't like it cause, AI is often lack of touch, and also their CGs are often not right for each other.

Personally, I cannot accept it. However, there is an inevitable trend in the application of AI in painting.

I personally don't like it; visually the art is bland and uninspired, and morally it feels wrong and unfair to the artists who put so much effort into improving their artistic skills. I like it when I look at a CG or a character and can identify which artist it belongs to.

I can't support the use of generative AI in games. I think replacing artists with AI is disrespectful to both the artists and the players, because I believe art is one of the major factors that attract players, especially in visual novels.

Not supportive for big companies who take money for their work and not saying there was an AI usage, but I think it's okay for individuals who make their first game!

Like others have already said, I also dislike the use of AI-generated artwork. Using AI art is one issue, but I think it's even worse to hide the fact that AI was used.

I think developers that use AI art should disclose this information openly, just like the key cards in NS2—users will judge for themselves whether the product is worth buying.

Ugh definitely no AI art for me. The time I know the art is from AI, I immediately lost interest, even if the story sounds intriguing. Prob the story is also AI *shrugs*
