  1. Full romance overdrive or slow burn?

Slow burn. Always. Bonus points for enemies-to-lovers. Maybe it's because I've been a fan of Jane Austen for years, especially Pride and Prejudice (even though I don't really like romance novels and hardly ever read them). Of course, everything within reason. I liked Tokimeki Memorial Girl's...
  2. Do you clear all the characters in an otome game before starting a new one?

I usually try to finish a game completely before starting the next one. Maybe not always 100%, though—for example, I don't try to collect all the illustrations (if that requires consulting the walkthrough too often). The exception—games like Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side. For these, I just...
  3. Do VAs influence you to start an Otome?

No, not really. I have a few favorite voice actors, and I can recognize a dozen or so others while playing (though even then, I couldn't name them off the top of my head), but that doesn't determine whether I'll play a particular game or not. For me, having a favorite voice actor in a game is...
  4. If you’ve already played a game that hasn’t been localised, would you play it again once it has been localised?

It... depends? If the translation were of good quality, then probably yes. Even if only to support future projects. But if feedback or reviews suggested that the translation was poor or misleading (Fire Emblem Engage is, unfortunately, a good example of this), then probably not. Unless, of...
  5. What popular favorite irritates you?

Those characters from Hakuōki who decided to become I can understand that Okita didn't really have a choice because of his health, but the rest? They did it just for the power, even though most of them tried to justify it with higher motives. Well, personally, they didn't convince me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  6. Enemies to lovers tropes

BL isn't really my thing, but wow, this game looks really promising. I think I'll add it to my Steam wishlist and check it out for myself—maybe it turns out I've just been picking the wrong titles, and it's not that I don't like the genre as a whole :D
  7. Enemies to lovers tropes

I'm a fan of the enemies-to-lovers trope. Although I know it's a silly trope from a realistic perspective and usually doesn't reflect well on the characters' mental health ;). I think it's a bit easier to portray this in books or TV shows; in games, it seems pretty difficult to me. I mean, you...
  8. Do You Like Otome Games With More Than One MC?

I think it's a really cool idea, and more games could use it. It lets you experience the story from different perspectives. And if you don't click with the main character, there's always a chance you'll like one of the other characters better :). Norn9 really surprised me at first, because the...
  9. Tickets in mobile otome games

As a rule, I don't play any mobile games, and this is exactly one of the reasons why. Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, and Tales of have had some great games, but I don't see the point in investing time and money in something with an uncertain future. You play and play, everything's great, and then...
  10. Feeling Awkward about English Voice Acting

Actually, in all games—not just visual novels or otome games—I choose the voice acting that matches the country of origin. I probably remember too many instances of truly awful English dubbing from the days of niche J-RPGs on the PS2 ;). It seems to me that English voice acting in games is...
  11. What got you interested in otome games?

I've always loved books, games, and anime/manga, so getting into visual novels was a natural progression for me ;). And then I was a teenager, so handsome virtual guys were an even more obvious choice. :giggle: So, I came for the hot guys, but I stayed for the interesting stories and diverse...
  12. What was a shock to you in otome?

Maybe not such a huge shock, but Hakuoki and the option to choose:
  13. How do you feel about brother routes?

If it's a biological brother—only in a platonic sense, as opposed to the other romantic routes. Alternatively, a storyline involving a possessive brother who protects his sister from the wrong kind of guys, which could also be interesting. In other cases? Probably not... Adopted siblings...
  14. What do you think about BL elements appearing in otome works?

I don't really mind. I'd prefer it if each genre stayed within its own boundaries, but I don't have a problem with certain themes overlapping.
  15. What's one trope or type of love interest you absolutely can't stand in otome games?

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I'm not a big fan of shota-type characters. I don't mind when the male lead is younger than the female lead, but I don't see anything appealing in him acting like a cute child or being generally very immature. So yes, I admit it, I don't like Heisuke...
  16. Do you like Simulation games?

I enjoyed Tokimeki Memorial: Girl's Side, and I really like games with extra features, including stat-raising. I've played through Princess Maker many times and spent plenty of fun hours with Volcano Princess and Lullaby Days. I have to take breaks every now and then because the game can get...
  17. Is the first route important for your overall perception of the otome?

It's somewhat important, but not that much. I usually try not to read the character descriptions before starting a game, so that way I'm not disappointed if a character turns out to be different than I expected (because I wasn't expecting anything;).
  18. Have you ever set an otome game wallpaper on your PC, phone or tablet?

No, never. It's not that I don't like them, but I just prefer wallpapers with nature scenes 🌄
  19. What are most shocking routes you’ve played?

Maybe not as shocking as some of the examples mentioned, but Shuu Iwamine's route in Hatoful Boyfriend wasn't what I expected, and it's not something that's easy to explain :D
  20. Have there been times when you just HAD to change a heroine's name?

No, I don't think so - I always chose default name. I think it might be an issue for people who know someone with those names, but I doubt I'll find a game with Polish names ;). I think the only game where the main character had a name closest to mine—and where that name was actually spoken...
