thank you all for your responses!! i loved reading them :D
i love your plot, honestly you should just make the game :P i like the idea of the love interests needing to fix you. i feel like the protagonist never gets to be a bad person in any game, which like... let me be a red flag for once...
i also totally agree!! i'm a bit of both where i self-insert a little but i also really enjoy full-fledged and unique protagonists. do you have any recs for these types of protags? :D
wow, my roommate was just talking about slow damage! i agree that it's such a nuanced and complex setting + cast of characters, and i really like the descent into depravity. i feel like BL games tend to have more of these more hedonistic but also fascinating premises which is great too! but a...
wahhh thank you for your reply!! i also like really dramatic otomes hehe and i would love to see exploration of mcs who fall outside of the prim and proper way i usually see them depicted. i agree that an addict mc would be interesting, especially since there could be a lot to think about in...
i know this thread has been done a few times before, but please bear with me! i was thinking about otome games where the setting is a big draw for me, and then it kind of evolved into what career for the mc specifically i'd want to see, or any concepts that i would want more of.
setting
i'm...
i think many people have mentioned it before in different threads, but i really like playing interactive fiction/IF games and putting all my effort into romancing the love interests! i feel like it helps scratch the itch of pursuing a route and i always enjoy getting to see cute romantic scenes...
for main games, i like to follow recommended route orders since i care a lot about experiencing the plot very "naturally" -- i enjoy getting surprised by plot twists and learning more about the world!
when it comes to fandiscs, though, i always order LIs from least favorite to most favorite! i...
honestly yes there's a lot to say about BL and fujoshi culture too -- being still a female dominated field, there's a lot of ways in which fetishization is genuinely an issue and should be addressed. i wouldn't be surprised if you're right! i think so much of it is about whoever's creating the...
WOW thank you everyone for adding to my humble forum post!! so excited to read & respond to everything because this is soo interesting okay let me see
oh my gosh yes!! and also leon is a much beloved character regardless, and he's always been hot so idk what the problem is. i really hate that...
right?!?! ok so glad it's not just me cuz i was worried i'd come across as a big ol complainer but like you really just do not see women complaining in the droves that men do about feeling left out. so many of the popular games across all genres are male protag and everyone plays those just...
wait don't be sorry i love the subject too!! the original questions is just a suggestion anyways i'm not pressed about it derailing hehe unless that's against the rules?!
and thank u for sharing that fact with me! i need to do more research into the history of otoge as well, but that really is...
DAMNNN.... virche is my most recently completed otome (hence the pfp) so i'm like extra attached to it rn aghhhhh twitter leave the virche lis alone...!! leave mathis and ankou alone!! but honestly when you show me the examples i think i'm not surprised i've seen this kind of language...
i went to go read the FAQ after you mentioned it and i don't like it eitherrr omfg it's basically implying BL and otome are shallow even if not intentionally... also idk if i'm being too woke but i get the sense the people who coined the term amare are japanese either so likee ... but that's a...
wait omg yes that one!! i had the exact same complaint!! all of the male mc's love interests looked so much more interesting i was really jealous... the differentiation also makes no sense me because wouldn't it be much better for fans to be able to pursue all the routes freely? there are ofc...
nono thank you for sharing + letting me know! i want to know more about what other people think since none of my friends play actual otome/non-western games so i'd like to connect more w the community. and i def agree it can be pretty misleading ... i also am wary of western devs because of how...
honestly yes i'm surprised there's a female protag on itch.io in general! the entire community has basically shifted entirely to amare which is fine too but i like playing as a girl and having the game actually acknowledge that vs the general gender neutral writing... altho idk if that's too...
i'm the same way haha i prefer japanese otome over indie vns ... but they can be fun to play and being free is a bonus :P i recently enjoyed big bad dogs from itch.io and i like that it specifically discusses the sexism/experience of being a woman in the 2000s but it's also still a wip so be...
^ seconding dot kareshi, i still like to replay it every once in a while because the concept is so quirky and fun. i think the third one has the most interesting set of characters imo but then again i'm probably biased since tomokazu sugita voices one of them :P
in terms of fucked up, i've...
i've been sitting on this for a while so i'd love to hear if anyone agrees or thinks differently! to preface, i do enjoy playing western otome/amare too -- but i definitely prefer japanese otome far more.
all this to say for the past few years i've noticed a huge uptick in western otome making...
this is a small one but i really like animated sprites for LIs which i'm at least glad seems to be common in new otomes ... but now when i play older ones i'm invariably disappointed when they can't blink and talk :')
