Free talks are great. They have the same vibe as the director's commentary tracks on movies they used to include as bonuses on DVDs. If you don't care, you don't have to listen, but sometimes they can give good insight into how the characters were played.
Always physical for me unless the release is digital-only. In the age of "owning but not owning" things I like to try and futureproof myself as much as possible for when digital storefronts inevietably shutter.
Unlike in Japan, voice acting in the west (or at least the US where I'm from) has been treated as an "easier" or "lesser" art in the public consciousness for a long time. It's gotten better for sure, but it still persists in some areas--such as hollywood where the major voice acting roles in...
Yes, any VN that tries to change it up in any way can be refreshing. Minigames and puzzles can be one avenue for that, but also unique UI or interaction mechanics can help. The minigames/puzzles need to make sense though and be justified by the story, and to Eril's point above if the minigames...
I prefer a focus on story over romance. I've noticed that with romance or relationship-heavy games I've played the plot often seems like an afterthought and some hand-waving away plotholes is done, especially in the games where you don't find out the full story until you play Every Character's...
The scenes where the MC ends up in some "indecent/immodest" situation and all the LIs overreact for one reason or another. It's degrading both for women (how dare they do something "not becoming of a woman" or w/e) and for men (reinforces the "men are too horny to control themselves" fallacy)...
I really recommend Backstage Pass! I can't believe it's a decade old now. You play through a year in the life of a college student intertwined with Hollywood falling in love with cute guys (and one cute girl iirc). It's a stat rasier a-la Tokimeki Memorial as opposed to a straight visual novel...
I self-insert way better in BL works because I lean masculine and often the female MCs in Otome just aren't too relatable to me. So I tend to gravitate more towards BL. That said... it is nice to be treated like a princess sometimes.
This will date me but it's fine.
Back in the day, there was this blog site called airavalky. AFAIK it is still online, but because the only way to access it was by making an account the owner had to approve, it's impossible for new folks to access these days. Most of the shared links are now...
For me it depends on the game. Mobile dating sims built for mobile (Voltage games, Mystic Messenger, etc.) should be played on the system they were intended for if possible, but for more traditional VN types I am fine playing on PC or console. It's really jarring if you play a game obviously...
I used to be more susceptible to FOMO when I was younger, but these days I view it as a great way to go insane. It's easy to stay abreast of things when you live the life I was living (effectively a shut-in still attending school), but now that I am an adult with jobs and responsibilities...
As someone who is on the GNC spectrum, I'm really happy that these characters are a thing. I haven't finished all of Charade Maniacs yet but Iochi was absolutely the first route I did because of their gender ambiguity. As for them having female seiyuu, I'm not bothered by it, but I do hope that...
I thought I had one of these, but lately I'm not so sure. As long as I'm still doing meaningful things with my life though I'll consider that a success.
