The internet, mostly. There are lots of tutorials floating around. You could try something like W3Schools. (Knowing a bit about HTML before learning CSS will make your life easier. W3Schools also has a section for learning that.)

See the button near the top right corner of your profile interface that says "Customize My Profile"?
From there, it takes some creativity, but mostly trials and errors. Having a little CSS knowledge may help, though.
Also, nice attempt with the code, though you also need to consider the proportional width if you want to divide text into left/right sections like that. -
