Have you ever sped up an (R-18) otome audio drama?

Understanding clear Japanese enunciation at 2x speed is an absolute flex! I wish I could have this ability 🫡😂
Playing at double speed compresses the rhythm of emotional expression, making it difficult for people to fully perceive the emotional depth in the audio, thereby weakening their ability to empathize with the plot. Therefore, I believe that when time permits, playing at the original speed is actually the best choice. ☺️

Nope... Generally i don't consume my media fast-paced like that lol makes me wonder how's anyone enjoy something like they're in a rush (no offense just fascinating to me)

I haven't tried fast-forwarding, but when I listen to a drama CD repeatedly, I tend to skip to the parts I want to hear. I should try fast-forwarding too

Yes, I have to admit that I have. Sometimes the story part feels a little slow or I start getting bored, so I end up speeding up the audio because I want to get to the part where things actually get interesting. 😭
I don't do it all the time, but when I'm waiting for something to happen and feel like it's taking too long, I definitely turn up the speed a little.

I completely understand that, and it makes perfect sense to me. I have to admit, I don't have the patience to listen to long, drawn-out sections without speeding them up 😅

I always watch videos at double speed, but I've never done that with audio.
It's true that the pacing can be slow sometimes, and there are times when I want to skip ahead—but in those cases, instead of playing it at double speed, I usually just skip to the next track.

Never! Speeding up an audio drama completely ruins the voice actor's pacing, tone, and breathwork. Audio dramas are meant to be an immersive experience, especially the quiet pauses and whispered lines, so playing them at anything faster than 1.0x breaks the entire atmosphere.

ive never sped up an otome audio drama, but i do skip parts. i usually read the synopsis first to understand the story. i only understand some japanese through context, feeling, and a few words i recognize, so i feel like theres no point in listening to the whole thing. if i want to listen to the whole thing, i prefer to do it when i can read a full translation too. but i think these days, its getting harder to find people who still translate otome drama cds.

I only know of a few people who translate Japanese otome audio on request—though, of course, you have to pay for the translation. However, with the development of translation software, it's not too hard to get a decent translation for free 😃

I did that just yesterday 😂😂 same situation! The scenario wasn't what I expected and I couldn't get into it. I didn't want to just stop so I sped it up to see if it's still worth listening to but nope I had to stop hahaha There's no point listening if I don't enjoy it

If the script isn't to your taste, speeding up the audio won't save it either 😂

Haha, you're definitely not alone. I usually listen at 1.0x too because the binaural effects sound best that way, but I've bumped some tracks up to 1.2x–1.3x when the dialogue felt really slow >-<

That's exactly right. I feel that sometimes speeding up the audio to 1.2x or 1.3x is just enough to keep things from getting boring without making the voice actor's voice sound funny—and sometimes, it actually makes the audio sound even better. 😂

I've actually had the same experience recently.
I had never adjusted the playback speed before, but there were a few times when the story suddenly felt like it was progressing really slowly, and I just wanted to get to the more interesting parts sooner.
So I tried speeding it up once or twice.
It really is a different experience.✨
That said, I only do it for stories that are particularly slow-paced.
Most of the time, I still listen at 1x speed as usual.

I totally get you lol. I've done something similar a few times too.

I usually listen at normal speed, but sometimes I fast-forward through certain parts (especially H scenes) if a scene starts to drag on for too long. Especially when I just wanna get back to the story, I end up skipping ahead a little lol.
