I really believe that any character can become a favorite or a preferred type if the story is fun and well written and the characters can reflect their personalities without it becoming a stale, overused trope.
Strong MCs that stick to their guns and are unwilling to bend to fit ideals or compromise morals can be so!! good to read with the feeling of rooting for a hero or even the playful frustration of wanting them to change their minds. ( ◡̀_◡́)ᕤ
On the other hand, a true morally grey MC (especially f!mc) are much more rare so there are tons of avenues of unexplored stories to be able to fully flesh out a wonderfully psuedo-villain that you still want to succeed with a heavy heart. ദ്ദി˙∇˙)ว
Flawed MCs especially when it's realistic to the setting. I like girlbosses as much as everyone else, but it tires me to see an MC be competent or witty in situations they really shouldn't be like that in. The reverse (aka the total doormat) is also annoying to deal with because they're written to have 0 braincells or thoughts for the sole purpose of drama or plot sometimes. The in-between is just perfect.
I'm drawn to people who are dedicated to their work and have strong leadership and decision making abilities. But in a relationship, I'd still want them to have a soft side as well. Haha, is that asking for too much?
Personally, I like mixing it up. If I want comfort, I'll go with strong MCs. If I want drama and realism, flawed ones hit the spot. And if I'm craving complexity, morally grey characters are the best ride.
I go with the three of them. I have this thought that I want to try more perspective as a player. That's why I don't have a problem what kind of personality the mc as, as long as it is delivered nicely.
I like them all.As long as I can understand her thoughts and why she acted that way.Different types of MCs can give the story a completely different feel.A strong MC can make the story really exciting and feel like I'm in control.A flawed MC makes me feel so tender .A morally grey MC makes the story more complicated and interesting.
Flawed. They feel realistic and relatable. I couldn't ever relate to the Strong MCs personally. I find the moral grey MCs cool because it's interesting to see how they character's morality plays into the story.
If they released a game with a morally grey MC, I would 100% preorder it. I don't think I have ever seen any major otome company release a game like this and only maybe saw 1 or 2 indie otome games with choices to follow a more questionable path. I think this type of MC really switches the dynamics in the relationship with LIs and honestly just makes the game interesting to play for me especially since it is so rare.
