How do you feel about a guy playing otome?

no issues. as long as they genuinely wanna play, then go for it! let them explore too y'know? 🥺
 
don't really care, to be honest.
People should be free to play whatever games they enjoy. If someone likes the story, characters, art, or voice acting in otome games, I don't see why their gender should matter. At the end of the day, it's just entertainment
 
I don't think a genre should be restricted for one gender. Anyone can play the game if they're interested in it.
 
i personally don't care at all i actually have several guy friends who play otome games. i only find it annoying when that small portion of guys start demanding that the MC's gender must be changed

It is strange how it's common for women to play games aimed at men or read/watch shonen and seinen manga/anime, but a man consuming media aimed at women is an anomaly?
I honestly think it's rooted in misogyny, where male experiences are treated as universal but men find it difficult to relate to women / see themselves in the shoes of a female protagonist.
I wish men didn't find it so preposterous to consume feminine media.

When Infinity Nikki came out, I was showing a male friend the gameplay and my outfits when he asked if you could play as a male. He got mad and claimed it was "unfair" you could only play as a woman.
Like bro literally look at every other game ever. Infinity Nikki is one of the only games of its kind. It's strange how they can be so entitled when the majority of games (and media) are already made for them.

the infinity nikki case was so funny when it first released, because its subreddit was FILLED TO THE BRIM with posts like "im a man but i enjoy this game a lot!" which just reads like mockery. "haha, this game is so girly and stoopid, but its okay because i, a MAN, am enjoying it greatly, which makes it kiiiiind of a good game!" as if every single female-targeted game NEEDS a man's approval to be considered good. same can be seen in most male-written reviews for otome games
this is the same reason why some people try to reclaim akatsuki no yona as shounen and not shoujo, because how dare something good and deep be aimed at girls first and foremost

I don't think there's any problem at all. Just because a game is designed "for women" doesn't mean only women are allowed to play it. After all, some of these wonderful games might even have been created by men.
 
It doesn't really matter, there's many jp men who livestream free otomege and there was a guy who even livestreamed koei games around, he got 3 strikes so he's not around anymore, I miss that guy
 
never actually played otome games but I have consumed a lot of women catered media if that counts. Likely would read some later though.
 
I don't have any particular thoughts on it, but if a male friend or my boyfriend were to play otome games, I would be overjoyed. I'd love having that common interest with them.
 
i don't care for the most part. i played and love games aimed for men (i'm a huge nikke fan) but also i think it's important to acknowledge that a game that targets a specific demographic, shouldn't be forcibly bent to accommodate everyone outside of it. basically as long as they dont say "oh this is DIFFERENT from other otome games" or ask for a male mc, i hope they enjoy it
 
I generally dont care, I think anyone can play if they want to of course, but i guess Id prefer if its to actually engage with the material in good faith rather than to mock it or make light of it. I feel like a lot of media, especially video games, aimed at women never gets taken seriously. Like, look at the way "cozy games", which generally market themselves toward a female demographic, are viewed and treated in gaming spaces.
 
Well, I like shonen anime and manga too, as well as Boys' Love. If a man enjoys otome games, that's his prerogative, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.

There are plenty of other gamers in my circle of friends besides me, and some of them hold such negative opinions about FIFA players, mobile gamers, and casual gamers. I don't get it. After all, we all enjoy the medium of video games in all its various forms. That's hardly a bad thing.
 
I don't see any problem with it since I play dating sims geared towards men too.

Sometimes I play games for guys too, for example soulslike game. I don't see any problem with them playing otome game, but I do have problem if they tried to mocking it after playing. Let them play otome game, dress-up or cooking game, maybe they just need some breather?
 
as a guy myself i don't see the issue, i like otome and bl regardless of the mc's gender. aslong as theres men i will play the game
 
Girls would play gal game so I don't think there's any wrong with boys playing otome game.
 
It doesn't bother me at all. I think it's perfectly fine for people to play whatever they want. I also play games aimed at guys, so I don't think there's anything wrong with them playing them! The only thing that sometimes bothers me is that I've come across a lot of people asking for a male character to be added. It's a game aimed at women, you can't change that. If you don't like that, then I don't think otome games are for you. ⊂⁠(⁠・⁠▽⁠・⁠⊂⁠)
 
I dont mind it at all, the only thing i wish is that they r respectful about it. I think anyone can enjoy any game they like.
 
For me, I'm a woman who genuinely enjoys bishoujo games, and even fanservice-heavy games like Senran Kagura. I can enjoy pretty much anything as long as the aesthetics appeal to me.

I also feel like learning about men's tastes and preferences is a kind of knowledge in itself. Seeing what kinds of things guys are into, what they find attractive, and why can actually be pretty interesting.

I think a guy who's open-minded enough to play otome games must be pretty broad-minded in the first place. And he'd probably come away with a ton of insight into what women like in men, how women might want their boyfriends to treat them, what makes women weak in the knees, and things like that.

So honestly, an open-minded guy who plays both bishoujo and otome games would probably have a surprisingly comprehensive education in romance.
