Whats the most well written Otome game you've played?

I've played quite a few Otome games (most of the major switch releases and their sequels) but honestly I can't ever think of a moment where I thought wow this writing is really good, its usually just me enjoying the game without thinking on it too hard. I think the closest I've had to getting wowed by a game's writing is Even if Tempest, I was really immersed I played the game straight from start to finish with only the necessary breaks. But it was hard for me to ignore how rushed and off some parts of the story especially towards the latter half of the game was. I really hate that one portion that was basically a glorified infodump to half assedly tie up some loose ends. The game couldve benefitted a great ton by just having a little bit more time in the oven but it was still one of my best Otome experiences overall.

I've played a lot of otomes, and i wouldnt even call EIT the best one/my favourite, but it really /did/ have standout writing... however, i think a lot of the writing was just "okay", like a lot of otomes (nothing wrong with that - i think the average game in general is like that) - until zenn's route, for some reason? Zenn's route had a writing quality increase so absurd that it was really shocking.

Totally reminded me of my favourite novel - I probably would've forgotten all about the game if it hadnt been for that segment. Club Suicide's writing was good at times, but it never really "wowed" me, so I think my pick is the same as yours.

(Editing before approval - I totally forgot about Jack Jeanne. I think jack jeanne probably has the best writing, just on account of being from Sui Ishida, but EIT is still up there, LOL)

I've heard a lot of good about Jack Jeanne, will probably play it soon. Anyways yeah I agree with most otome writing being okay at best. I guess its understandable since its a genre meant for self indulgence above anything else but I still wish it had more examples of superb writing. Its a shame because a lot of the plotlines in otome games are extremely interesting, Virche had an extremely good and unique plot but the writing quality and the nonsensical reveals dragged it down by a lot. I still liked its more emotional moments and characters though .

Agreed; To be honest, I just couldn't get through virche with its writing style. I'm happy, at least, that "darker" otome games are a little more popular these days. Hopefully we get a truly touching one soon.

So, I'm recommending 断罪のマリア again!

The story is long and rich…

But lately, I've been watching a lot of utapri gameplay videos.

Although I've always thought the utapri storyline wasn't written very well, after watching a bunch of these videos, I've realized that utapri is actually a series that pulls everything together quite well—if you look closely, the story is actually pretty interesting.

Oh wow that game looks interesting, sadly I don't speak Japanese. It might be time for me to setup a local translation llm lol, my pc should be good enough for it hopefully.

I think Blackish house
Playing it rn and it's VERY good

Romance is developing naturally, story is interesting and has some mysteries, every character has different psychological problems and we help them to deal with it

And it gave me one of my favourite LI of all time (I have 2 routes left maybe there will be another one)

I really enjoyed Virche (which I recently finished), I didn't think I would like the game as much as I did, I devoured the entire game in about a week. I thought all the main and secondary characters were very well written; my only reservation about the story is the issue of Ceres' curse, which isn't really a curse. I think I would have preferred the situation to be more mystical than scientific, but that's just my personal preference.
Cupid Parasite, which I played before this one, is also on my list of favorites. Even the characters I don't particularly like, I managed to enjoy reading the story.

Shinigami to Shoujo is one of the games I'm playing right now. Its plot is the best I've seen in otome so far.

Is it 断罪のマリア or utapri?

It's an older game, so I don't think it'll be too demanding on your system even with the translation!

Looks very interesting, are you playing with the english patch? If yes How is it? vndb says its incomplete though sadly
No, I am reading the Vita version in Japanese. There may be a localization in the future since I remember the Taisho X Alice translator (Molly Lee) did expressed interest.

It is not a otome game but amare, but perfumare and fool me once from pdrrook are my favorites. This author writes characters so well, i love characters like Reed.

断罪のマリア! not really a fan of older/classic artstyles but I really like the aesthetics

Then you definitely have to give it a try!

Actually, the overall tone is tragic romance—even the true happy ending was added later after the port; at first, there were only sad endings…

I enjoy the Neo Romance games developed by Ruby Party, Koei Tecmo's otome game brand, especially the 《Angelique》series, the latest being the Nintendo Switch game 《Angelique Luminarise》
You can freely nurture and romance multiple male characters. The character development system has a simple tutorial, and you can even pre-set your weekly schedule for quick navigation, eliminating the need for daily planning. You have complete freedom of action; you can cultivate friendships with rival female supporting characters or ignore them. Dialogue content will vary depending on your character's progress.

The most interesting feature is the crystal ball at night, where you can occasionally see the inner thoughts of a male character with whom you have a high affinity if they are invited out by a female supporting character that day.
