Do you prefer plot-heavy otome or romance-focused ones

I know some people prefer story-driven games over romance. Personally, I prefer a 50/50 balance. Too much focus on one side usually makes the other feel lacking.

I changed the question because I accidentally posted a duplicate, and I don't know how to delete it :P

I prefer heavy-plots combined with romance, 50/50 too; in fact, my favorite games like UN:Logical, OverRequiemZ, CxM, and Bustafellows aren't characterized by having a lot of romance, but they do keep you hooked at all times, keep you on edge, and teach you to appreciate romantic moments more.

I like all those games, so we must have the same taste 😆

Depends on my mood tbh hahah like if I have enough time to sit down and read properly? Story-driven for sure.

But if I just wanna wind down and relax and don't wanna think too hard over some story plots, I'll just pick romance-based otome games.

I apply that when I'm really tired of plot-driven stories and still want to enjoy an otome at the moment. Though i prefer a 50/50 balance between both aspects, a romance-focused game is perfect when I just want to relax

I also prefer a 50/50 balance, with maybe a little bit more plot than romance. If it is to much romance, without enough plot, I cant really enjoy the romance as much and it actually doesnt feel as romantic to me. Same the other way around. If it is too much plot and not enough romance, I will popably still enjoy the plot (if the Plot is good), but still feel a little bit unsatisfied at the End and wish for more romance. Finding the right balance is important.

It depends on my mood but personally, I think otome needs strong characterization and some level of romance. If an otome relies heavily on its plot then it's not much of an otome to me. My standards are also far higher in those cases. There are only a few otome I truly loved for its plot.

I'd say a balance between the two. I love romance, but I feel that a strong story gives the romance much more impact. When the plot is well developed, the characters grow naturally, and the relationship feels much more meaningful. For me, a great romance is always better when it's supported by an interesting story. 😸

I'm just like you: I prefer a balance between the two – a perfect and nice 50/50 balance! But if that's not possible, I'd rather focus on the romance; the lack of romance in some routes I've played really annoyed me 😭

Unfortunately, it's hard to find 50/50 stories, because they either focus on the plot and storyline – leaving the romance sidelined or in the background –, or they focus solely on the romance, resulting in plot holes and inconsistencies...

I don't have a strong opinion as long as it's entertaining enough to keep me hooked and delivers what offers. I want to know what I'm getting into. If it seems to have a dark theme, I expect it to build a good mystery, regardless of the romance. If I'm going for a fun story, I want comedy and a cute romance. If the story is good enough, I don't mind the lack of romance tho

I value a compelling story script: it should be meaningful and have a series of climaxes. A heavy, melancholic tone, or a story with complex emotional entanglements and psychological shifts, where the plot doesn't unfold in a one-sided way and twists and turns are more interesting.

I can accept romantic elements, but I hope the content isn't empty or monotonous. A story that's just about romance from beginning to end, without any trials, growth, or mutual influence, just a happy ending would be boring and tedious. :frown:

I play for the story first and foremost so I don't mind if the romance is more of a side plot (like Code:Realize and Bustafellows). The only thing that bothers me is when there are barely any romantic moments during a route and it's just shoe-horned in at the end (I'm thinking of Saitou's route in the original Hakuouki haha ^^'). It feels weird when the relationship feels platonic the whole time and the writers just make them kiss right at the end then roll the credits.
