You're talking about a country where porn is still technically illegal, which is why all JAVs are 2 hours long and censorship still exists in such abundance. This swing does suck but it's not actually surprising. The anti-"obscenity" forces in Japan have always existed and always been powerful, they were just biding their time until their next push. they definitely have some blame though, i'd imagine the whole censorship bullshit the EU has done and what the US is trying to do enabled the japanese censorship crowd to gain more leeway to actually start pushing companies into stricter rules, though obviously theres not much actual foreign involvement in this case
Isn't it to avoid legal restrictions under Article 175 of the Japanese Penal Code, "Distribution of Obscene Materials, etc."?
It may sound unbelievable, but in Japan, there's a job that's solely about checking whether or not AV (adult video) has mosaic censorship applied. In other words, a job that only involves watching AV.

well one upside to the whole fantia thing is that i spent the time do some archiving, i dont normally follow MMD artists on fantia but here is some of m0fum0k05's work from 2024-2026, this includes twitter summaries and paid content, this does not include vtuber content as i dont like vtubers, content from before 2024 is not included but it seems to have been mostly posted here, this is to mostly fill in the gap from before his fanbox and after kemono died
i also plan to post work from ghost2421 (https://www.iwara.tv/profile/ghost2421) when i followed him on fantia, he unfortunately deleted his fantia at some point but i have most of his work on one of my harddrives, i just need to find it...

Okay, yesterday I was reading some misinformation people assuming its the west and VISA forcing Fantia the changes. But no, its the actual japan government enforcing stricter censorship laws that made fantia to do these changes. Is it stupid, of course. But its japan and I dont live in it so let them figure out their own stupidity I guess sadly enough.
Specifically, Article 175 of the Japanese Penal Code (1907) criminalizes "the distribution, sale, or public display of indecent (obscene) objects, documents, or drawings." While Japan's constitution guarantees freedom of speech, this article is the main basis for censorship of pornography and art in the country.
