WORST official translations of otome & BL ?

The first Taisho x Alice "localisation".
I will let this picture speak for me.

Does anyone know anything about Birushana? I have seen a fair amount of negative comments about its loc and personally decided not to play it 😓😓
and also basically any historical-themed otome localized by IFI

That first translation of TaishoxAlice was hilarious. The English voice acting made it even better, honestly a classic. 😂

Since you asked for "worst" I don't think anything can top Taisho x Alice tbh. It wasn't just bad, it was "meme quality" bad and the English voice-acting was icing on the...terrible cake.

If you want like, different answers though, I can add the Switch games by OperaHouse.

The English was...Englishing alright. I don't even know what kind of machine translation they used to make it that broken.

Paradise musubi for me... so disappointed since i loved the main game and was so excited for the fd but the translation was just so bad it made the characters feel ooc and it even got some plot points wrong too TT thankfully jast said they're redoing the translation so there's hope XD

I don't think it's machine translation - it wouldn't mistake 'heart' for 'heard'. And where was the editor? 😂

"You are f to me" is sending me lmao, it's definitely evocative of SOMETHING but who knows what!

Anyone remember Pastry Lovers? Pretty bad game so there's not much reason to, but wow, that translation... Not sure if this forum allows posting youtube links, but if you search, there's a video of William's ending that's a nice sample of what it has to offer. I mean, who doesn't love when a strong belief of happiness is conveyed by a handsome boy to you? That's what otome games are all about... it always makes me find my shiny figure and soar up in a cheerful frame of mind :D

Someone remembers Heart no Kuni no Alice and its awful localization?

Also Collar x Malice. Well, I think this is okay but the first time I played I couldn't help but notice the typos, wrong nametags and split lines here and there. Same thing happened to Piofiore and NORN9. Aksys translations improved a lot but they were not so great before. Good enough to turn a blind eye in comparison to another games tho.

I don't even want to talk about translations by dramatic create such as Arcana famiglia.

I remember that there were some Magic House games that used to be sold on Steam before being taken down at some point. They were outright machine translated and terrible to read.

There's also Him, the Smile & Bloom before there was an update patch to fix it. It wasn't that too bad, but it was still stiff and akward. IIRC, they had an excuse that "it's to help Japanese players to learn English!" Which is certainly something.

I honestly don't get why one would put up these kinds of translations, especially for visual novels where reading is 100% the experience.

I think it's the first translation of Norn9, because there was a lot of localization liberty there.

I swear I couldn't finish Taisho X Alice because of this translation 😭

And I thought I was the only one who didn't like the translation!! Because Taisho X Alice is a very beloved game, from what I've seen on the internet.

I wanted to say vns by dramatic create but someone has already mentioned it. Not the worst translation per se, but for such prices I'd expect more effort, not the machine translation with zero editing. And it's such a shame!! When I learned Of the Red, the Light, and the Ayakashi Tsuzuri by HaccaWorks was translated, I was so happy at first, because they deserve all the recognition with their intricate plotlines and bittersweet stories. But then the translation (and price tag cough) had to ruin everything 😭 They even had a typo on the map menu!! How low-effort is that?? Then I found out they were translating Arcana Famiglia that I was also looking forward to... not anymore... Also, The Town of Nie...
I was baffled how people are okay with that?? It's not the same as using Textractor or something, and praying to gods, it should be a complete, polished work 😭 ...But then I looked into this thread and saw that there's actually a history with otome visual novels and MT, and I was like, "oh.....". The examples are funny but the whole situation is so sad :c
