Have there been times when you just HAD to change a heroine's name?

i usually use the default name unless i dislike it or it reminds me of someone i know IRL and don't like. or some games after i start playing and get to know the MC and the setting and feel that another name suits her better
 
GS1-4, it takes quite a lot of time to think of names that is "readable" by the system. Recent games characters read default name so better not to change it.
 
I also self-insert but i didn't cared much of the mc's name till i found one with the same name as me, hearing LI moaning my name was an experience that changed me 😆 since then i always change it to my name because even tho mine isn't voiced, i don't want to her the LI saying others names

I always default names cause I don't wanna self insert and when the name is horrible I change it
 
I always use the default heroine name, and so far I've never disliked any of them.
Using my own name feels too embarrassing… lol
I like otome games where the heroine's name is voiced by the characters.
 
I'm not self insert but i often change default name to Eri ( jp/kr games) and erin non jp games. Eri not my real name but i just like it . The only exception is if defualt name is voiced.

I always use the default name, even if I don't like it - I really love hearing the VA say it :D
 
Because most games have the LIs mention the protag by name, I rarely change the protagonist's name. But during my first otome, which was Piofiore: Fated Memories, past me thought Lili was a typo and I typed Lily, and later I kind of regretted my decision and went back to Lili, after learning it's just short for Lilianna hahaha
 
As a self-inserter, I always change the name, if possible. ("ಡωಡ")

If it's a spoken name game, unless the character's name is something that can be a nickname or a pet name, I will still change it for immersion sake. (⁠๑⁠•⁠﹏⁠•⁠)

Sometimes when I see a character's name, I secretly wonder if I've heard it somewhere before too
Whether I change the protagonist's name or not really depends on my mood and the game :)
 
If there's no voice acting for the default name, I always change it. Not to my real name, of course, just my go-to gaming name haha. But if the LIs actually say the MC's default name out loud, I leave it as is. It just feels so awkward hearing them completely skip the name in the voiced lines if I change it.
 
If I want to hear the voice actors' performances, I plan to keep the default names as they are.
A while back, there was a game featuring a heroine with the same name as me, but it wasn't fully voiced back then… I thought that was a bit of a shame.
It would be great if there were technology that could call out names like KONAMI's EVS. But since AI has its own issues, it doesn't seem likely to happen.
 
I prefer the default name. I like to have the heroine's name called by the characters' voices. If there's no default name, I usually decide by nickname or my cat's name.
 
To preface, I don't self-insert or friend-insert at all and the heroine is viewed as a character in her own rights.

If there's a default name, I will 100% take it.
If there's no default name (boooo), I will use my friend's name just for giggles, unless the name doesn't fit with the country/setting of the game.
