What's one trope or type of love interest you absolutely can't stand in otome games?

For me, it's the guys who are overly possessive, controlling, or disrespectful to the heroine but get excused as "romantic." I really prefer LIs who respect the heroine's boundaries and treat her as an equal, not someone who just wants to own her.
No matter how good-looking or popular a character is, that kind of behavior is a total turn-off for me.
What about you guys? Which LI trope makes you drop a route immediately?:chuuni_yes:

The first one is the male lead who has ambiguous or messy relationships with other female characters. The second is the type who has violent tendencies, yells a lot, and is emotionally unstable. Both of these character archetypes are deal-breakers for me.

I tend to find it a bit hard to relate to characters who are too immature or don't respect others. I don't mind it when they show a momentary lapse in emotional maturity, but if they consistently treat others poorly or hurt them, I find it difficult to empathize with that character.

Playboys. Let's choose someone else… I'm not interested in taking a ride on the village bicycle even if he swears he's changed and only has eyes for MC now (ㆆ_ㆆ)

It's even worse if the route does start off purely with the LI having an interest in MC's body—I'd rather those LIs ignore MC and say MC isn't their type.

I really don't like LIs who were already in love with MC before the beginning of the story, even more so if they're childhood friends. I want to put the cake in the oven myself and you're giving me an already half baked cake? 😔 It's even worse when the character's whole personality is being in love with MC.

I'm not really a fan of characters who are violent toward the MC, but I still end up playing a lot of games that have those types of characters 😶

I can't stand love interests who are arrogant, playboy, and male chauvinistic types. They flirt around, thinking they're God's gift to women, while completely ignoring the MC's wishes and making decisions for her instead of building an equal relationship.
It's especially annoying when the game forces a romance and uses the 'reformed playboy' trope to justify this toxic, controlling relationship.

guys who don't love the MC and magically start fancying the MC in the end. like what happened lol. i understand warming up late or not understanding your feelings but there should be some kind of explanation you know. it kinda feels like writers remembered they had to make them fall in love last minute

i personally cant stand guys who are overprotective either, like keep asking where they are and stuff. i feel suffocated across the screen lol. also the ones who gets irritated whenever MC talks with someone or keeps following her everywhere. please leave

You know, I also dislike LIs with unresolved past lovers that are either still present or still have an effect in their life. OR when they compare the protagonist (or the protagonist has a resemblance) with the person they loved, big no. Things like that lol I'd rather not deal with all that.

I don't mind it, but I do have a gripe with characters that are in love with the protagonist at the beginning, I purposefully leave them for last like me saying, "oh, you are in love with the protagonist? Too bad, you are going last so you can see her with everyone else first! :devilish:" I'm so sorry fictional men haha. In My Next Life as a Villainess that doesn't apply since everyone is pretty much in love with her so her real fiance took the fall, sorry Geordo :ROFLMAO:

The little brother type. I don't have much love for the pampered prince/young master type either.

Yep, this trope doesn't belong in otome.

I just can't stan characters who hurt the MC... and ngl, middle-aged or older characters who are way older than the protagonist just don't do it for me. 🥺

LI's with past relationship with another major character (worse if it's another LI). Another one is playboy types, tbh, a hit or miss, what I dislike is the lack of boundaries with the other female characters even if there's already an established relationship/feelings with the MC. Lastly, tsundere characters, especially those who are emotionally immature. I love them, but they can be so disrespectful with the MC sometimes it's hard to play their route.

i can't stand middle-aged LIs 😭😭 especially when they have that stubble lmfao although i understand that it can be appealing for others, it's not for me... felt like i was romancing my uncle or something

I agree. Toxic, manipulative and otherwise abusive LI's are entirely unattractive for me too. I don't understand the appeal and never have.

Really not a fan of LI who don't experience / care for love but somehow meeting the MC.... just changes them

For me it's either the man-slut (specifically the kind that doesn't actually do shit. All bark, no bite. Even worse when he's supposedly biting everyone except the MC.) Like where is all that I was promised? WHERE????

Or the yandere. More specifically, the yandere who's into hurting, torturing, or killing the MC. Like c'mon now, you're supposed to be crazy for me, not at me. Someone please get this man a muzzle. At some point they stop being yanderes and just become serial killers "with a crush".

Peter Pan style. A true tale of tragedy. (*´・v・)

Wait until you're the auntie/uncle age bracket and suddenly they become your lane instead (o❛ᴗ❛o) Love me an older guy now. They usually don't have the time or energy to tiptoe around or bullshit their way through things like the twenty/early thirty LIs do. (but the mc should at the very least be closer to their age too)

Playboys. Also Li who will hurt MC physically and morally or lock in the basement. I like yanderes but only soft yandere.

bye bye young and reckless love. ヾ(•ω•`)o, welcome hot mature man (~˘▾˘)~

yesss, its weird when they put a mc thats a teenager or young adult and then they put a love interest thats in their 40 or older, and then their pick up lines are "you are so mature for your age" thats flag its red red red, run for the hills kiddo.
