Does anyone else get annoyed when your choices don't actually matter?

So annoying! Especially if it's particularly long game or I'm on a route that doesn't really interest me, the option of having fake choices that don't even impact my gameplay irks me to no end щ(ಠ益ಠщ) give me choices!

It bothers me when two different choices are presented, but both of them lead to the exact same outcome except for one or two different lines of text.

Like, some characters are about to fight and you can choose to intervene or not. It doesn't matter either way tho cuz MC won't intervene no matter what, only her thoughts change before you circle back.

At that point, just don't give a choice LMFAO!!

I know it's just a marketing ploy for people to think their games are incredibly interactive and changes, but most of the time all the options just leads to the same end. I can't really think of a game that actually does this aside from the Dragon Age Series (at least the first 3 games.)

I love when I get to explore routes and make choices that actually matter and affect the plot. When I do my first playthrough, it becomes a route that I chose, without any guides or tutorials, and that makes the experience feel much more interesting and personal.
When there are choices that don't affect the plot at all, it's pretty disappointing and makes me go like just don't put any choices atp

yeah, i do.
especially, for example, in situations like when there is choice between do or don't and you click "don't" but mc do it anyway, maaaaybe with a slight hesitation. like wtf dude i chose not to do that why are you doing that anyway?

I HATE THIS KIND OF GAMES!
Why would you give me a chance to choose if you won't care what i click?

Yes, this is how I feel! I want choices that matter and can have long-lasting effects on the plot (which might be why I loved Fable when I was younger). I don't mind if some of the choices don't matter, that's fine, but I don't like the situation where every time you select a choice, if it's the 'wrong' choice, the game corrects you in some way and goes on as if you selected the 'right' choice. Honestly it brings to mind the newer Pokemon games, where you get two choices, and it's the exact same outcome anyway. Why give the choice? (aside from putting you on track for a bad end, I guess).

Think this is why I really enjoy the games with more personality influencing choices. It feels like your choices can help shape the character's reaction to some scenes. However, if the choice doesn't matter in the end except for a line or two, yet somehow also important for a route is frustrating and feels pointless / not that meaningful. Can be nice to turn off brain without a guide in those cases, but not much else.

Otome-ge life as always.

It does bothers me sometimes when story reaching it's climax and choices pops up like
WHY LET ME CHOOSE JUST GO FOR IT MC!!!! I'M HERE ROOTING YOU!!!!! lolol

It annoys me more when they give choices for "a friendly anwswer" or "a polite answer" and other unimportant things, but when it comes to life or death situations I cannot get the choice to save my own ass.

It would be better if the dialogue were even slightly different.
Even so, it still gets on my nerves.

I like games where your choices actually matter. It feels disappointing when the choices don't really affect anything or even change the characters' reactions. I also enjoy having lots of choices because it makes the game more fun for me.

It doesn't bother me if it's in a short story or just a game demo, but in a longer game it does bother me because then I don't understand why they give us options.

I like both. When my choice doesn't really matter, it's nice to just pick whatever feels comfortable, and when it does matter, I enjoy seeing how the outcome changes depending on what I choose.

It kinda depends? Some choices can be made to affect the plot while others are merely acting as points or scores to get you to a character's route/certain ending. If they still bring you a different outcome although the game leads you to the same plotline then it's fine by me.

What lowkey annoys me if the plot is linear and there's only one ending and you still have to make fake choices like what's the point then? Though I can be easily satisfied if different choices give me dramatically different characters' reactions

I'm totally okay when the game makes it clear that the choice doesn't matter, like in Over RequiemZ. Otherwise, I usually don't even try finding which choice is important and which is not and just check guides.

I don't mind it too much, but I definitely enjoy the game more when the characters' reactions change based on my choices.
