Joining the previous replies, I like the non-blood related brother routes as much as any other routes (or should I say I don't really care about that fact) but when the sibling status keeps being mentioned over and over again, it makes me a little uncomfortable and cringe a little (but still doesn't make me drop the route = ⩊ =). Guess having siblings irl somehow plays its part ¯▿¯
 
I'm not one to bring what's taboo in the real world into the fictional world so of course I find it interesting xD, the more toxic and problematic the route and characters are usually a plus for me for a route especially onisan routes whether incest or pseudo incest..... but for routes like this whether I like this route or not is very much influenced by how this route is written and also executed although of course there are some exceptions like li's secret route in 7scarlet, even though I can say that route is generally bad, but I can't help but like the characters www

Sure, I'll read them but... it does give me quite a weird feeling. Sort of have to remind myself it's all fiction so it's not "that bad"

In reality, incest is probably a target of criticism, but I personally think it is okay to be dealt with in various ways in unrealistic spaces such as games and cartoons.

As an elder sibling myself I find myself getting a bit uncomfortable when the incest angle is ALWAYS front and center, though I've played my fair share of them and don't mind them if it isn't the entire crux of the route. Yoritomo was actually a route in Birushana I was very ambivalent on until the reveal he isn't actually her sibling was made. I don't dislike the trope certainly, but I don't seek it out. I love taboo topics and dark content but sometimes I can't help but project myself as an elder sibling onto the "older sibling" character in any media I consume and thinking "yeah I couldn't go there myself" LOL

It all comes down to their writing and how they appeal to me, I liked Gretel cause he was unhinged, did'nt like it as much in black wolves. Regardless I am fine with brother LIs cause its fiction at the end of the day.

If it goes out of generic fantasy and dives into natural state as well as dark side I'd enjoy it. Well, cannot deny there are certain rl references there that won't be solved in rl so has to have it another way.
 
i honestly HATE them its just really not my thing at all i dont mind that they exist or that other people enjoy them but personally its something i just cant get into
 
I have to admit I actually like it quite a bit! I separate fiction from reality so it doesn't bother me....
I really like the super protective oniichan trope (〃ω〃)

I haven't played any but I think it all comes to how it's written. Overall, I'm not against them existing, but at the same time, I'm not actively searching for it. If the game happens to have one, i would play.
 
my all time favorite, but i HATE surprise reveals of "we actually arent blood related". theres a grand total of 2 characters where I've still enjoyed them after that nonsense lol. commit to the taboo damnit!

I enjoy playing this game. Of course, I don't try to relate it to real life. After all, it's a kind of fantasy.

I don't seek it out but if it's in game I definitely enjoy it -- not sure if this counts as an otome but Frederique's route from Rose of Segunda is one of my favorites that pleasantly surprised me and captured that forbidden feeling so well!

I like brother routes, but i like it to be more... how to say it... that the character can express his/her feelings in a more subtle way.
Because, i mean they are ''brothers'', doesnt matter if real or no blood related, the sense of ''taboo'' creates a dramatic conflict, so i like games that write the story not so ''obviously or directly''.


For example, focusing on the characters' psychological conflict, hesitation, and repression, rather than explicit scenes.
The characters may be aware that this kind of relationship is not socially accepted, which can lead to:
  • inner struggle
  • avoidance or emotional suppression
  • a secret relationship

This kind of routes is what i would like to play

Usually i like the "forbidden" trope but if it's like Toma route in Amnesia, IDK I JUST CANT BRING MYSELF TO LIKE IT TvT
 
I'm fine w/ non-blood related LIs!! But as someone who has a sibling, I feel eughh actively choosing to play a blood-related LI's route in otome games. I don't self-insert but bc there's always some degree of player autonomy and focus, it makes me feel like I'M engaging in incest LMFAOOOOOOO (I'll still play them tho bc im a clown and a completionist 💀)

I LOVE dark and/or taboo topics tho! BL and fanfiction having MCs who are full-fledged characters I'm significantly removed from does help since I feel more like an observer than anything💀
 
I don't mind them at all, mainly because I, myself am not the sister to said 2d character. And even though the story has the main character being related to the LI, I don't feel grossed out because I don't see myself as the MC? Sometimes the MC is nonexistent when I play these games. So in the end her relation to the characters doesn't bother me in the slightest because I go," Huh? We're related? No I'm not." lmao
