Do you prefer otome game with gameplay element or just text reading element only?

I have only played VN with no minigames so far but I think I will stick to that. Some of the minigames I saw seems so tedious and I'm prone to quit the game because of that.

I love vns with gameplays! As you talked about Hana Awase, I loooove the gameplay there, to the point where I bought a hanafuda deck myself and learned how to play :miku_happy: Now I need people to play with me :swearveng:

I prefer games that I personally don't have because I sometimes want to watch stories but I also feel like I'm disturbing them.

I prefer text-based books, but I also really like "Harmony of Flowers" that you mentioned.

I'm always intrigued by the RPG-like mechanics when I come across them, but... honestly... text-only works best for me

i dont mind text only personally but i do like having something that adds to the overall experience. if its something mindless i can do that feels satisfying sometimes i will just play the game for that since it's a bit soothing in a way. most of the minigames added in otomes however feel very surface level and not that interesting. im thinking of the ones in dairoku particularly

Basically,I don't mind if a text adventure (ADV) game includes some extra interesting gameplay elements, but if those extra elements are strongly tied to the ending—like if insufficient points will lead me to a bad ending—then I might not like it so much... Here I'd like to mention an indie game that might be worth noting, for example, "Varney Lake"...

But in the end, this one (that is to say, me...) finds that what I like best is still pure visual novels—I don't want anything to take my eyes away from what's happening in the story...

I enjoy both. I like gameplay such as mini-games, stat raising, or exploration because they make the experience more interactive and give me something to actively do while progressing through the story...At the same time, I also enjoy purely text-based because they let me focus on the story without distractions. It really depends on my mood

I love gameplay elements, but in the end I usually end up using a walkthrough anyway, so it doesn't really matter that much. Still, I love when there's gameplay it adds an extra layer of interest!

I like both and it's nice to change from time to time in case I got tired of the other, as long as the plot are nice and the characters are interesting I don't really care.

Either way works for me, but if a game includes gameplay elements, they need to be engaging enough to keep me interested. I really enjoy the systems in Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side. As for Wand of Fortune, while the story and CGs are lovely, the gameplay feels a bit too grindy for my taste.

The only otome I've played so far with "extra" gameplay elements has been stat-raisers (Dandelion comes to mind first but also western VN's like Backstage Pass) and I didn't much care for them, it felt like something just to pad out the length of the game itself. I think that more meaningful side content like in Hana Awase or Jack Jeanne would be something I'd enjoy much more when I get around to playing them, but at the end of the day I'm in the hobby because I love to read and love VA work so it's always the most important element to me.

If the gameplay besides the main adv choice contributes to narrative I'd play for it, but if is only grinding, like any other game, it is poorly designed and needs optimization. Wand of Fortune and Haruka 1-4 did decent jobs with combining gameplay.

It always depends on what kind of gameplay elements are involved.
I'm not that enthusiastic about most of the ones that only have mini games.

Recently i've been thinking about this after sharing hana awase(an otome game with hanafuda battle), even japanese community is discussed about this too before on twitter after love and deepspace (恋と深空/恋与深空) booming successfully on otome game market nowadays.

So what do you think? do you prefer an otome game with full visual novel reading style format or otome game with visual novel with some gameplay? like maybe simple simulation/dungeon crawler/rpg maker style, etc.

Personally i like full visual novel format but i don't mind some gameplay element too, but in my opinion the bad side of mixing gameplay element is i'll be focusing on grinding instead rather than continuing the story thus making the game longer than i imagine. (laugh)
Gameplays definitely spice it up. Just not deepspace:forsaken:

To me it doesn't really qualify as an otome in the same sense

Gameplays from otomes like Dandelion: Wishes Brought to you or even Collar x Malice's puzzles are quite fun! Wish they added more ngl.

hmm it depends on my mood honestly...i play almost any type of otome vns even if they have some sort of gameplay, but most often i lean more onto the visual novel reading-type format since its more chill...like i truly love jack jeanne but the stat-raising system and rhythm game feels tiring to me so i tend to go back to the game every once in a while to play one or two routes then take breaks lol.

I like mini-games, but I also like games where the text is mainstream. Of course, just reading the text makes me feel like I'm reading a novel. Instead, I hope each character has a variety of stories and endings that don't overlap.

I'm used to reading only and minimal gameplay, so I don't mind it lol
But I really like it when there's some gameplay to break the monotony, my favorite one is Even if Tempest, really keeps you engaged

I've played too many janky 'gameplay' otoges to like them but if executed well I would definitely enjoy it

I realized I prefer my otome games without game play, and that's because I often multitask while I play them LMAO. Ie have it on auto mode while I drink my tea in the morning or while I put my skin care on at night. Because of this, I've tend to put off my otome games that have game play because it's harder for me to find days where I can put aside time and focus on gaming for an extended period of time (The reality of being a grownup and married unfortunately)

I am anxious and prefer playing with a guide, so when the game completion is attributed to some wins in a strategy battle, I usually drop the game since I hate losing, and it brings me to tears or rage. It's better when the game is text-only or mini-games are optional

i personally prefer otome games that are mostly just text reading i like being able to focus on the story characters and atmosphere without too many gameplay mechanics getting in the way
