  1. Returning to an otome game after a long break: restart or continue?

Definitely continue from where you left off! Restarting from scratch sounds nice in theory, but in practice, you risk losing all your motivation before you even get to the unread content. Since you already cleared 2 routes, just pick a new character and dive right in. The game usually gives you...
  2. Your method/motivation to finish your ever growing backlog games?

I'm the exact same way—I get distracted by new games constantly and play very on-and-off! My 'method' is simply not forcing it. If I get bored or burnt out, I take a break and play other things, then come back later when I'm in the mood. Gaming shouldn't feel like a chore, so I just take my time.
  3. Do you find long-running titles intimidating or harder to get into?

Not really! I actually prefer games that have sequels or fan discs. Seeing that a title has follow-ups makes me even more motivated to play it. It just means there's more content and worldbuilding to enjoy, so I don't find it intimidating at all.
  4. Do you like the slice-of-life otome genre?

I wouldn't mind trying a slice-of-life otome with normal guys, but it really comes down to the writing. My main concern with having 'zero drama' is that the story might become a bit too flat or boring. If a game loses my interest, I tend to drop it pretty easily! So even in a normal everyday...
  5. games that aren't exactly "otome" but that you still really like?

Farming sims with romance candidates! Especially Stardew Valley. It's already super fun on its own, but with the help of mods, I love it even more! Mods really take the romance and character interactions to the next level.
  6. What are your favorite otome game/anime openings?

My favorite right now has to be 'Taisetsu na Anata e' from Moeyo! Otome Doushi (sung by Naoto Fuuga). Such an awesome opening!
  7. Whats your opinion on poster boys / Favorite poster boy LI?

I definitely don't have any bias against poster boys! In fact, they usually catch my attention more than the other characters at the beginning, though that's not always the case. Whether they become my favorite or not just comes down to their writing, but I certainly don't mind them.
  8. Will you play otome games forever?

I think I'll keep playing forever! Even though I might play very on-and-off or take long breaks in between, it's a hobby I don't see myself ever quitting. I'll definitely be playing otome games for as long as I can.
  9. How do you feel about voice actor changes?

I probably won't be able to get used to it at first, but honestly, there's not much we can do about it. In the end, all I can hope for is that the new VA does a great job with the character, and then I'll just try to slowly adjust to the new voice over time.
  10. How do you feel about LIs who still have feelings for someone else?

For me, it really depends on the writing. If it's well-written and his emotional transition is handled properly, I don't mind this trope at all. However, the ending MUST be completely clear and explicit! If the game leaves it ambiguous whether he truly moved on, or if he still views the MC as a...
  11. What would you think of otome games without the option to change the MC's name?

I wouldn't really like that. Whether to change the MC's name or not should be the player's decision. Even if I end up keeping the default name most of the time, not having the option at all just feels a bit strange and restrictive.
  12. Can the number of LI affect the quality of otome?

In theory, I don't think the two are directly related. The quality of a game ultimately depends on the skill of the developers and writers. However, in reality, if the development time and resources are fixed, then it definitely has an impact. Having too many LIs usually means less time and care...
  13. Do you self-insert while playing otomes?

Sometimes! It really depends on the heroine's character and situation. I self-insert when I feel like it, but if the MC goes through way too much suffering, I step back and view her as a separate character. I definitely don't want to self-insert into a super miserable situation lol.
  14. What do you value more in otome: the plot or the romance?

It's a really tough choice, but if I forced myself to pick one, I'd say the plot. If the story is boring, I find it almost impossible to keep playing and just end up dropping it. That being said, there has to be a clear romance where they actually end up together in the end! If a game has zero...
  15. How do you play Japanese-only games?

I use AI translation tools! Specifically, I use LunaTranslator hooked up to AI LLM APIs as my translation source. Whether it's grabbing text via text hooking or OCR, the results are amazingly good! To answer your question about machine translation: modern AI LLMs handle context and nuances so...
