i think it depends for me :O i realised i only insert myself to the mc if i like the LI. if i'm not that attracted to the LI, i unconsciously read the whole route as a mere reader
my first otome game was storm lover kai. i enjoyed the game a LOT, however it's not my all-time favourite. it still has a special place in my heart though! :]
i love both otome and bl. almost equally! my choice depends on my current mood a lot; there are times where i want to be loved by the LIs, yet there are also times where i want to be a mere bystander of someone's love story. i'm the type to self-insert a lot when playing otomes, so when i want...
i can say i'm too fragile for tragic ends, so if i have to choose, i'll definitely pick happy ends. no doubt :D
however there are some cases where i'm quite intrigued with tragic ends/what-ifs, especially if the theme of the said game is quite a dark one to begin with. i think for those kind of...

however, if i couldn't find at least one character who clicks with me and my personal type/taste, then the probability of...

most of the time, it depends. if i'm interested in the world building or the game's universe, then i'll definitely play the other characters' route once i finished my favorite's. there are also some cases where i dont click with some love interests' traits and/or visuals, so i end up skipping...
same here, i also prefer 2d otome games! i think i share a similar view with you; i personally think 3d otome games make the characters looking too 'realistic' (?). for me, 2d otome games' characters look way more attractive since they're /clearly/ fictional. the dimension gap between the player...
