Any recommended route order(s) that just didn't work out for you?

Have there been times where you disagreed with the common recommended route order for a game for any reason? Like A>B>C but you think B>A>C makes for a more coherent story, or simply provides a better emotional experience.

On top of my mind: A certain BL game, which I'll be vague about not to spoil just in case, had a character B route that felt more like a bad ending for the character A. And iirc A>B was the recommended order even in the fanbook, but the aftertaste of seeing bad things happen to A AND the MC in B's route, right after doing the more upbeat A route was so painful lol. But maybe that was the intention...

I can't remember an example, but everything, where a character I'm not interested in is recommended as the first route, can be described as such. It's a complete and honest motivation killer. I prefer to be confused or spoilered, but at least I'd be confused with a character I like.

If authors think that there is a relevant story order, they should lock it. If it's not locked, there shouldn't be anything to prevent readers from enjoying the story in any way

I actually can't remember if something like that ever happened to me, but I do tend to dislike the majority of the true/locked/final routes due to them being mostly an information dump with minimal romantic chemistry.

Omg a blast from past He is the old dude, right? I don't remember much about it (t's been close to two decades since I last played this game lol) but I remember not liking his route in particular

Omg! I only got to play it last year because i wasn't 日本語上手 enough for it before. Kind of a mess but it ended up being a mess I loved... And yeah that's him and the ending was basically Greg's route but instead of saving him like he did in there, Dick watches Greg get shot, gets trafficked himself and is rescued by Dag but it feels like a consolation prize more than anything and he doesn't even talk much about his brother who's the poster boy lol. It's funny because it felt Yura remembered she was directing this game and needed to torture someone other than Aby ASAP & they decided to dump all that in the old man route lmao

I played it with the help of the ancient scrolls of ATLAS, mecab and an actual paper dictionary lmao (I blame them for my shitty eyesight). I probably should replay it now that both mtr and I (barely) are better at Japanese.
