I miss the breathing animation in Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi (PS3)

Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi on PS3 had these really cool life-like breathing animations and hair animations for all the sprites. Newer Hakuoki games don't have these sprite animations, or really any other otome game (that I know of). It's usually just still sprites with blinking and mouth animations. Why is that?? I thought it looked so cool and I have a copy of Hakuoki on the PS3 just for this.

It's such a shame that we don't really see those kinds of animations anymore. Sure, the blinking and mouth movements are nice, and theoretically, implementing breathing and hair animations in 2D isn't actually difficult.

It's not a lost technology, many modern games use Live2D. Check LicoBiTs' releases for example (Utakata no Uchronia, Un:Logical and Le Mirage Mystique), they all have highly animated sprites. Also, majority of mobile games have this kind of animations. If anything, pictures move too much sometimes
