Do you like otome routes that end with the MC and LI having children?

I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but I'm talking about routes where the ending involves the couple having children, or where parenthood becomes an important part of the story, either in the main game or later in the FD.

Without spoilers, I've come across one case where having children was simply the final outcome. There wasn't any real development around it, and you didn't even get to see the children's faces lol

I know some people don't enjoy themes raising children or things similar IRL life because they play them to disconnect from reality. Do you mind those kinds of themes in certain routes? Would you rather avoid them? Why?

Personally, I don't mind them. I actually enjoy family-oriented themes, and if a route explored raising a child in a meaningful way while still maintaining a strong romance with the LI, I think I'd really like it.

If you mention any examples, please remember to use spoiler tags so I can check out those routes later!

Personally, I don't really care either way since I don't self-insert. But it does sometimes feel pretty random like it's simply there to fulfill a trope. So usually I just kind of roll my eyes and continue reading lol

I think the only time I liked it was in V's route (Mystic Messenger) since it felt thematically fitting considering Rika's background, but also the child is adopted there, and she has her own desires to meet her biological family, so it didn't feel forced.

So I guess if it's handled well it would be nice to see. But honestly, I don't think the trope is that common to begin with.

I don't think I'd mind but I don't think I've ever seen it (Apart from an Otome game I remember my sister playing when I was a kid). I feel like it could be pretty cute if done well but I can understand why others might not like it

I actually do like it!! And any scenario that involves watching the LI being competent and sweet around kids, it's so adorable to me!!

(Mistonia) Edward's good ending involving having children, though I did giggle at the name of our first born lmao, felt super nice to me tbh. Ed's whole route was full of his family issues, and despite being the Charming prince of the game he had this lonely air around him. Clearly, he was isolated from his family despite doing his very best to be, well, the best son/brother he could. In my opinion, it makes a lot of sense for us to build a family that's actually what it should be, full of love and support, considering by the end of the route neither him not us (player/heroine) have a family to return to.

On a wildly different note (9RIP sequel) Hibiki, in the godly (I think it was that one?) route, proposes to us in the afterlife while saying "I do not want children/O do not wish for children" Which... 1. Lmao good thing you don't honey because we're both dead and couldn't have them even if we wanted to. 2. That also made me feel very soft?? Like he's thought so deeply about the future he wants to have with us and it's just so. So sweet! 10/10!! Warmed my heart up just like traditional family tropes!!

(Hakuoki: Ginsei no Shou, Saito route) I've only recently started playing this fandisc, and honestly, that chapter where Saito talks to the little boy and we just!! Tell each other hm actually yes you would be a great mother/father! And then go GASP WAIT WE HAVE TO FIND A PARTNER FIRST THO.
It was also the way he said it, something along the lines of "You'd be able to guide them well" That went just. So beyond a generic "you'll be a good mom because you're a woman and just showed basic human empathy to a small human/put a damp cloth on my forehead because I'm sick". Or maybe I'm just biased, Saito ilysm.

No. I don't know why I never like that part be it in anime, novels or manga. It might be coz I love reading mainly for romance and love, avoiding 18+ tho I'm not a minor lol

I enjoy stories about couples raising children, even if it's a simple ending, like a cutscene without the child's face.

I hope to see the couple's relationship blossom into marriage, that they are both mentally prepared to become parents, and that they work together to care for the child. The process may be chaotic, and being a first-time parent isn't easy, but at least they're united in their efforts.

Sometimes I feel like authors use children in endings not for the plot or any meaningful reason, but for bonus happy points. Like "And they lived happily ever after. In a beautiful house. And had a pet. ...And children! Two, no, three!". Having a child is a lot of work and just seeing a drawing of a small figure next to main characters doesn't do anything for me :frown: It can be a huge plot by itself, don't waste it on an ending illustration

In my view, the appeal of otome games lies in seeing whether the romance works out or comes to fruition, so I don't feel the couple having children.
So, I might be unconsciously avoiding works like that.

If the story is serious, I think it would be nice if it ended with the characters having a baby—because that represents ordinary happiness. But for a slice-of-life story, that might not be necessary.

I don't mind it of it makes sense for the story and the route.

I recently replayed all of Takao's route of My Forged Wedding and children where really involved throughout the stories, which makes sense because he is such a family man.

But there are stories where adding children do not make any sense. It feels as they're just filling a check list of what it's believed to make a relationship fulfilling, which I disagree.

The romance part is the one I actually care about, so this isn't something I'd focus on when looking for a new game. Though it's not a horrible idea if it's done well, so I do see why some people would like it.

I would like stories to take on that challenge because it adds a new layer to the couple's relationship. They're starting a new chapter together and learning to love each other in a different way. I think it could work perfectly in a story that gives it the right amount of time to develop, but that doesn't happen very often.

wow, this ED is so rare, i never remember playing one with kids ED or FD (´・ω・`)?
but if i might across one, I don't think I would hate it, but def not the kind of ED I would love to see haha
I can't even play games with normal world/current world settings, cause it triggers my stress from work/daily life haha¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
but I guess, if it was written really well, I might not dislike it much (づ ̄ 3 ̄)づ

It doesn't particularly bother me when I'm not trying to identify with the main character. But it is true that in the opposite case I would feel out of step with the way history is unfolding.

i think it could be very cute, like a post credits scene with a cg at the end of a route! i know for a fact that im not having children irl, but i do have a soft spot for child characters in manga/anime/games, related or not, otome included. however it is not a hard requirement for me. its nice if its there, but i wouldnt feel like something is amiss if its not!! i just treat it as a bonus something to gush over^^

there are some stories where the protagonist becomes a mother/father against her/his will, or just has to look after a child for whatever reason, and these have always been fascinating to me!! i love stories that explore bonds between parents and children. maybe because i have mommy issues but anyway i reread iede shoujo (not otome) yesterday, and it was a heartwarming experience, even if a bit short! (im a bit biased though because i greatly enjoy charon games) i certainly wouldnt say no to an otome game with a similar premise. where the heroine and a love interest are "forced" to look after a kid for example.
also child characters are great because they can openly ship heroine and a love interest and thats just. so very cute LMAO i saw crazy cha!n screenshots with alto acting like that towards heroine and cronoll. so blessed!

It honestly depends on the characters. Sometimes having kids feels really OOC, and I'd rather see them just end up together. But when it suits their personalities, I absolutely love the "they lived happily ever after with kids" ending—it's just so cute and wholesome.

I think it's such a wonderful ending. I've never raised a child in real life, yet to me it's a lovely romantic culmination, just like the classic fairy tale line — they lived happily ever after. It fills me with a sense of peace and comfort.

I'm pretty comfortable with having or not after ending. Interacting and raising them sometimes fun, but Ririka has really opened my eyes.

the best ending in Seirin's route is 10 years later, MC has 8 children!!! Okay, I know Seirin is a dragon, and dragon has 9 offspring (龙生九子). But what, 8 in 10 years?! I was shocked. Add the number in Ruwo's route, we will have a soccer team.
