What do you think about manga, manhwa, and manhua?

They each have their own distinct styles and strengths, right? I personally read manga the most, but sometimes I feel like trying something with a different flavor.

I've also been trying to read novels from different countries, and lately I've been really into Korean web novels. Is anyone else here the same way? What do you usually read?

Sometimes I read manhwas, but mostly I prefer mangas. Due to the management, and the editorial I find things more "polished", and in stories there are more to my taste.

I hardly ever read manhua. Most of what I read is manhwa, followed by manga. If I had to choose, I'd definitely pick manhwa because it's the format I enjoy the most and where I find most of the stories I like.

nostalgic! i remember starting off with manhua back in the day when it's always abt CEO love story (you'd already know the whole plot and how it goes) and became too common and predictable. I also read manga at the same time, but honestly, I became more immersed in reading manhwa (regressing and reincarnation theme). My cup of tea had already become way too typical, but funny, I'd still eat it up. I must say that I still haven't gotten tired of it LOL

I used to read manhwa and manga a lot, (there was a time where I got super addicted to the villainess genre and I think I read like everything out at the time lol). But honestly I hate how a lot of it is just formulaic slop. Honestly I've had pretty bad experiences with manhua, a lot of them I've read turned out a lot worse than even the slop manhwa and manga

I used to like to read comics, and I also bought them to collect, whether long or short. I like to immerse myself in books alone and enjoy comics. It brings me the fresh excitement. It's okay now. Time is limited, and there is less contact. We all watch animations or essential videos.

It is not limited to the girl style or BL style. If you have a good script, you will be interested.

I have read Korean Otome comics before. The character design is beautiful and the heroine is beautiful.
 
I read all of them! I have a stronger preference for manga, since there are more variety and established genres (from shoujo to seinen etc). Manga was one of my entry points to Japanese works and I still read them quite regularly. I even got into some otome games due to reading their manga adaptation like Alice in the country of Hearts. Currently, I mostly read BL manga or slice of life ones like Kemutai Hanashi or Natsume Yuujinchou

I feel like manhwas especially the romance webtoons have been really popular since the pandemic era. One of my favorite ones was Villains are destined to die because of the otome game premise and favorability meter. I read it when it was still in the early seasons and had to machine translate the novel to find out the ending. Now, I have mostly weaned off my villainess/reincarnated manhwa phase since most stories are formulaic with repetitive tropes (looking at the numerous black haired cold duke of the north and the blond crown princes over there). There are good manhwas outside the romance genre like the idol ones eg. Debut or Die (which also has a novel incase anyone is interested).

As for manhua, I find it hard to find the good ones. Most I find are adaptations of novels and are of mixed quality eg. too fast paced plot and cutting things out. I prefer reading the novel than read their manhua adaptation. One of the original manhua's I like is Kill the Male Lead to Become the Villainess with a dark cat like MC and a golden retriever ish ML. It has an interesting plot which I find myself following. Another one I follow is the manhua adaptation of Lord of the Mysteries webnovel which is a cosmic horror mystery action work set in the Victorian era.
 
Love manga and manwha. How I Met My Soulmate is one of my favourite mangas!! I find manga romances are slower paced, cuter and more heart fluttering. As for manwhas, they exist in abundance but its hard finding ones that are well written with good quality art and that isnt just some formulaic reincarnation slop. Dont get me wrong I love the cheesy reincarnation plots too but theyre more a guilty pleasure and dont give me the high of "omg im reading actual peak" like well written mangas (and some manwhas) do.

Dont really read manhua, some of the art is pretty but I find the it looks a bit too stiff and lacks the expressivity/liveliness in alot manwhas, i do want to try more of them though!

For me, I read everything whether it's manhua, manhwa, manga or novel from various countries as long as it's interesting. Each of them has different charm, and fun if you find out the genre you like.

Yeah, Korean web novels are good, especially its detailed worldbuilding. I like to read novels like Omniscient Reader's POV, The S Class That I raised, Got Dropped into Horror Story Still Gotta Work, etc.
 
My library had tons of English manga so I read lots in middle school. Now I mostly read manhwa cuz they're online and the mangas I follow (mostly shounen back in the days or random ones), I'm not interested in anymore. Also since now I can read Japanese, I usually just use the Japanese apps to get my manga :) for manhwa… I don't really read it much? Maybe just a couple that I really like which I ended up getting the series physically when I visited China
 
I really liked manga back then and i collected lots of them. I loves shoujo the most. While Manhwa also interesting because princess and villainess themed in webtoon.
 
i read mangas and manhwas pretty much everyday. manhuas i dont really read a lot because usually the pacing is too fast or weird for me so i would end up dropping them. also the plot would get a little strange for me personally. im slightly the opposite with novels tho. i read a lot of chinese and korean novels but not a lot of japanese ones. nothing wrong with them, i just stopped reading them over time
 
I started off with manga at first, then ended up reading more manhwa/manhua as they are coloured lol. Though I realise that with the genres I read, a lot have repetitive and cliche plots, but funnily I read them exactly for those cliche troupes:tongue: Thats also why I am pretty on and off about reading them, just whenever I feel like it
 
After getting used to the panel layouts in manga, it's really hard to get used to reading manhwa and manhua, which have almost no panel layouts—it feels like it takes a lot of mental effort… I've actually tried a few times, but I still can't get used to it. However, I can still enjoy reading manhwa and manhua that do have panel layouts.
 
I usually read manga, for manhwa uhh.. it doesn't really appealing to me (it's really hard for me to enjoy manhwa) and I also read few manhua but only baihe though.
 
I read a lot manga and manhwa. But not a fan of manhua. Instead i prefer watch many Chines fantasy/historical dramas. As for manga recently read a lot about villains.

Wahh glad i found someone else who reads korean web novels!! I've been into them since like last year. (putting my otomes in the backlog for a while...)

i even created accounts to collect korean webnovels in the official sources. I've got naver & ridi 19+ verified account (naver one is very hard to get verified TT) also kkp acc.

I tend to enjoy korean webnovels rn because i find JP/CN LNs and webnovels kinda lacking in characters emotions' depth (in my opinion) and *cough* spiciness *cough*. korean webnovels can be so heavy on smut. not to mention web novels are the main source of many manhwa adaptations!

kr webnovel genres i usually read are hunter/gate, guide, game transmigration/reincarnation trope. Also femdom & reverse harem heheh (I've got so much volumes of them and don't even have them all MTL-ed rn)
 
hmmm I don't really consider a difference between any of them as long as the content is good,, I find that I read more manhwa though only because I rarely see any manhua translated. For manga I also prefer physical copies if possible which makes manhwas just the most accessible to me.
 
l usually reading manga. but recently l read manhwa which is surprise me. is so good. the story much more deep. l didn't say that manga don't have a good stories. is just manhwa have a longer run than manga. like, most my favorite manga end with just 10 or 2 volume only.
 
I like manga but I read more manhwa these days mainly because of the convenience of it being easier to read on a smartphone. The paneling of manga isn't optimized for mobile reading and sometimes I had to zoom and drag the images all around to be able to read all the little text boxes whereas with manhwas you just need to swipe vertically.
