Thoughts on the rise of the male yandere tag?

i've been a fan for YEEEAAAAAAAARSSS and it makes me so happy that the tag is being represented more as i used to bust ass just to find crumbs of a slightly possesive character in media, but nowadays there are otome games with male yanderes exclusively and more anime being adapted from mangas that star this tag. We've really come this far

i'm with you!! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و i still haven't found an 'otome' that delves dark enough for me with the possession and obsession of a yandere without it being a 'bad' end or just alluding to it. (￣ε￣ )

lots of indie devs are cranking some out, few finish, but i really enjoy the demos on itch while i search for the next one! i hope it becomes more prevalent without making the trope stale with reused depictions or stories. hopefully, there's some fresh diabolical plot twists or actions to really show the duality of the intial character personality and the eventual descent...sigh..＊*♡( ⁎ᵕᴗᵕ⁎ ）

In the past, when I encountered tsundere or yandere characters in games, I didn't know why their emotions would fluctuate so much:

Sometimes they were happy, sometimes suddenly unhappy, even yelling at the female protagonist, and sometimes they would suddenly burst into tears. They wouldn't listen to anything I said, as if they were living in their own world.

Later I discovered that they were concerned about their image, not good at speaking or expressing their emotions, were jealous, and hoped the female protagonist would care about them—which was kind of cute.

Well, I love yandere, yangire, menhera, 闇, 重, etc etc characters. basically, extreme emotions, instability, crazy, yes please. SO I always welcome more of such content.~ Although a lot of stuff is still only within the Japanese sphere which is a big reason I started learning Japanese.

My onlyyyyy issues are like, people that use the tag far too loosely. (like okay, characters that are just kinda jealous and possessive can be nice too but that doesn't make them yandere... and sociopath's can be interesting, but they need the dere for that..~) oh.. and the general issue of minors in adult spaces these days, I backed off from a lot of social areas with yandere interests due to the large amount of children... like.. no.... I'm in my 30's, that's incredibly irritating and uncomfortable as hell lol. (like a girl boasting about her "rl yandere bf" like no gtfo with that roleplay/go to an adult if you're being taken advantage of)

and I do believe in general, heavy/dark/questionable content should be treated carefully for those not mature enough to understand the difference between fiction and reality, not just for the pornographic areas... (and yes, I always consumed a lot of heavy fiction growing up myself but I didn't just go into adult spaces being loud and comfortable, I may have quietly consumed lol)

I really like it but I wish people took more liberties with writing, a lot of the recent Yandere characters I see just feel like the same guy with different designs.

Yandere is good! I love it too

I like the heroine so much that it's really fun to see a man who is acting and thinking crazy

No, I don't want to think about it in the real world, but when I read the story, I can see the behavior that is out of the ordinary with excitement

I like Yandere, who listens to the heroine's words gently, but doesn't listen to me at alllol

It makes me happy - I love yanderes. It does make me a little sad, though, that people are still scared to portray them as wholely mentally ill. It's annoying when an author gives them a diagnosis or problem and then refuses to actually write about the diagnosis/problem - at that point, i'd rather you didn't add it in at all, you know? like when they write drug addict yanderes.

This doesn't really count as "yandere", but i like Dark aono-kun from I Want To Hold Aono-kun So Badly I Could Die. Symbolically, he's really interesting ... I'd like to see an LI like that some day.

I really love yandere characters and seeing what they are capable of to make MC stay with them is something else. Exploration of dark themes was always interesting for me, so I am glad it is becoming popular. I want to find more unhinged stories
