Annoucement of closure
Hello everyone,
It seems this is the end of our journey under the name of "moneko", and I hereby announce that moneko is closing down forever from now on.
It's unbelievable for me to have worked on MMD for 7 whole years already (July 2019 - July 2026). There has been many ups and downs, many mistake I made, many things I learn, many people to meet. There are some here that have been with me since the beginning, and I can just say I'm eternally grateful for sticking with me through thick and thin.
I did love this side jobs, I really adored it, the feeling of new models, new motions, new stages and new techniques of MMD managed to drive me through even through the dark time of COVID-19. And I'm proud of what I have achieved, over 400 projects, and at least 50% of them have like 4 different variations, that's like 1000 different videos at least, insane right? Many of them can be underwhelming, but there some I truly put efforts in, which I think pretty much anyone can tell.
And I'm glad I have found my own niche, my own brand, and have my own stable fanbase. The fanbase can be not as large as others, my works might never reach a faction of what the other creators achieve, but reaching this point makes me immensely overjoyed already.
For the reasons of why I'm stopping, it's many and many, but I can list at least a few of them of them here:
- First and foremost, I'm reaching the age of family settlement which requires me to be more invested in my main job, so for 1-2 recent years, I have no more than 20 hours of free time per weeks, and running this MMD side gig ate up at least 15 of them, so it has been slowly but steadily kill of my passion, and I think it'll only get worse if I continue. No time = no passion = half-ass projects that leave everyone in disappoinment, and I hate it.
- Secondly, it can be just my own point of view, but I generally dislike the ongoing trends of MMD with the heavy focus on Koikatsu or Blender-based projects, and traditional MikuMikuDance practitioner either all stops or drown under this trend. I believed the golden age of MMD was in from 2019-2023, when new godlike creators published like crazy and new high quality original characters released hundreds everyday. It was fun back then, there were many passionate creators to learn from, to chat with, to ask / buy their models and applying them to my own ideas. But it seems to me that it's now just a bygone era, nowadays I click on "Trending" page of Iwara everyday, and 90% of the videos are just the same Koikatsu slops with the same tropes on just different IP-based characters, and they are mindnumbingly boring to view, and I just can't comprehend why they earn such high number of likes of views. Again, I might be completely wrong in this, maybe it's worth a ton to everyone else, but I stand my view.
- Thirdly, the nature of this job is too "ahead" of my social standards. Don't get me wrong, I believe these types of jobs are absolutely necessary, if not me then others will continue to do it. But the ongoing dictatorship of censorship affects how most people views these types of content heavily. Many still, to this day, think lewd = bad, lewd job = shameful, "you could have done better thing with your abilities", even in my own social circle. And it wears me down everyday you know, it just hurts so much.
So that how it is. It's been a long journey for us, sometimes I just wish I can continue on forever, but I'm afraid this is where I stop. But it's not like I'm quitting MMD for good, you might find me popping up again under a different time, a different name, with more freedom.
I'm wholehearly grateful for everything you have done for me, and I'm sorry for this is where we part.
Goodbye, Moneko.
