What Otome/BL game would you NEVER recommend? And why?

It's pretty hard to found one but the only one that came to my mind is probably brother conflicts..? As someone who played both the pink and blue versions on psp i can understand why some ppl disliked the game..the synopsis is literally just abt the heroine getting a new family with 13 step brothers going from 10 to 31 year old if i remember correctly, the characters are all pretty cliché from the stereotypical tsundere to the cross dressing older brother…the whole thing of flirting and dating step brothers may have made uncomfortable alot of ppl and i see why…in general the game is okay-ish ( i just don't know why they added a 10yo to the story welp ) but it would be the one i wont be recommending to everyone xDD

Personally, I don't like and feel uncomfortable with otome games that involve kidnapping or worse. I feel the exact same way about BL. it seems like there are just too many stories centered around abuse

hmm a game i'd never ever ever recommend to anyone is kinda difficult to pin down bc there are people capable of tolerating (or even enjoying?) things that are dealbreakers to you and vice versa, what makes something good or bad is often kind of subjective

maybe something widely disliked or clearly unfinished despite being sold as a full game?

The long answer is it heavily depends on what constitutes as "never recommend", for example Sanzen Sekai Yuugi has really pretty art, good character designs and a good presentation, but one of the LI is the protagonists brother and it has a scene with explicit sexual violence which would knock it off many people's to play list. Even games everyone agrees are in poor quality could have something you enjoy in them even if it's just laughs, there might be a flower blooming in the trashfire.

The short answer is any otome Gacha game, fuuuuuuck that you can go buy one trillion games with what they wring from you, just look at the fanart and the doujins and RUN.

R-rated games in general *coughs* joke aside.

I usually drop games early if they don't click, so I mostly remember the ones I loved. Since tastes are subjective, those wasn't for me could be for others! With that the only games I'd truly hesitate to recommend are ones with serious issues outside the game itself.

Though if I had to pick one despite those reasons, it'd probably be Getsuei no Kusari? It has an incredible script and is one of the few games I've fully completed. That said, it portrays human flaws and crowd dynamic of closed communities in a very raw way. Some scenes especially those 'responsible' adults ostracizing protagonists (村八分) were pretty tough to read, so it might require a bit of emotional preparation. ( ˊᵕˋ ; )💦

Jooubachi No Oubou, and I speak from personal experience 😭

Last year I decided to play some 18+ otome games and send a kind of "review" via email to my friend (as far as I know they only play yuri visual novels) and well... they were horrified by some events in the game.

I also think they've probably played worse, but Jooubachi No Oubou was something new...

I don't think the game is that bad, but for me it has heavy content that many people wouldn't want to continue playing. This is for those who like really dark content.

I think it depends on what the person I'm recommending things to is like? I wouldn't recommend Diabolik Lovers or Piofiore to someone who has very hard limits on dub/non-con and morally questionable heroes and heroines, for example, or Code:Realize to someone who wants to play a casual romance because that long common route is anything but casual material imo ngl
