LIs having romances with other characters

How do you feel when the LIs have romances with other characters?

For example; in Andromeda Six, if you're in a romance with one character, the other characters will also start romances with each other or with other characters.
And when a character has a relationship with another? Something like a friend with benefits or a clear romantic/sexual tension between them, how do you feel?

Personally, I don't like it at all, in the case of Andromeda Six. It makes me only want to do my favorite character's route because if I don't, I'll have to keep seeing them with other people. It really discouraged me from the game.

Omg, that and the Speakeasy game (promiscuity levels High) aghhh, I hate it. Neither do I wanna be a wingwoman: getting option to hook other LIs up. I don't want POLY where they make bedroom eyes at eachother and flirt every chance. I need personal harem! the jealousy and possessiveness! unwillingness to share MC! I mean I like seeing bromance here and there but I get to be selfish self-insert so need that special romantic attention aimed solely on my chara.

I feel the same way! If I'm not the focus, then no thanks!

There are very few polyamorous games I've liked; normally when I want more than one Li, I prefer a harem, but that's very rare in Amare games, and it's usually polyamorous instead of a harem.

It's crazy! Another member asked for harem games and no one could really find any targeted at women that didn't include polyamorous. Bad ending group-session doesn't count; need happy ending. I'm still hoping there's a proper indie out there that isn't 3P option romances. It's strictly sticking to 2LI guys route at a time or 'harem' where you can only romance one-at-a-time collectible LI routes with group CG in end.

Hate, hate, hate it!

I played this game titled I Was a Teenage Exocolonist years ago without looking too into it and boy, I should've because almost everyone had set pairs that were either serious or explicitly said to be FWB… If you don't get on someone's romance path fast enough, they will be partnered up—there's a chance that you can break them up, but it's not in a satisfying way IMO. It had me feeling like I was fighting for my life to get an LI's attention. Hell, sometimes getting an end for an LI showed them leaving you or including someone else.

It was very unfortunate for me because the only characters I had interest in were ones who have some poly or FWB stuff going on with other characters (@_@;) I already dislike seeing LIs with others if I'm not on their route, but seeing it while actively pursuing them is something else entirely …

This is the reason I romance only Garrus in Mass Effect :)

But I'm not against LIs having relationship "before" the start of the story, if they will eventually be with MC.

Not my cup of tea, when it happens in the middle of the game. If it's something mentioned in afterstory - then I'm all for it. All(or mostly >_>) of them definitely deserve to be happy, even if not with our mc.

no, they were created for me to love and enjoy, no one else. ψ( ` ∇ ´ )ψ /s
but, really, I am definitely on the side of not enjoying those details at all.

mainly due to being a self-inserter, but i'm like, I'M the main character when i play otome. ٩(•͈ ꇴ •͈)و ̑̑❀

I also have the issue of those details stay really prevelant in my future playthroughs so everything will now be second-guessed or read into too deeply to try and see where THEIR romance is hinted at.

if the game was not an otome, i think i'd be more okay with it (such as fire emblem games, pairing off other characters was cute and fun). otherwise, an otome should have the love interests solely interested in the main character only. don't expend time and details that could have been allotted to MC's routes.
(。•́︿•̀。)

and yes, it has ruined routes for me as well. there's been games i just quit entirely because it played out as such. ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚

Personally I won't mind, I would treated like mult-verse when play different LIs route. Reading all the "what if" is pretty fun

Hmm I didn't think much about this... personally I don't mind 🤔 I mean yeah I'd feel kinda put off, but as long as the A romances B thing wasn't canon if I play A or B's route, then I don't really mind

thats the hardest no in the universe for me. its no better than ntr. and its very rarely promoted this way!!!!!!

i agree with ruruchan2u, i personally am not interested in all the poly/bromance/partners involving lis bullshit. if a character loves someone other than me, then he just. doesnt love me. and why would i pursue someone like that? why would i even play a game like that if i can just boot up a direct ntrge instead? either everyone in the game is in love with me and is miserable without me, or im not gonna play it!:D
but at least this trope is usually reserved for western games, and i dont play western games because they hold no respect to the otome genre (and i despise amare), so im mostly in the clear luckily:)

this reminds me of what happened to kakyuusei 2 back in the day. the central heroine was used in all promotional materials, her face was plastered everywhere, on every poster, every artwork, they even made her a childhood friend dammit! but then the actual game arrived and.. you spend like half of her route watching her hooking up with her boyfriend? kissing him and being naughty with him and stuff (with cgs by the way)? and the worst part is that this boyfriend of hers is a decent guy?? and it wasnt advertised anywhere ? ? ? ? ?
ill admit that some reactions were over the top levels of funny, but like, can you really blame these otaku? when you boot up a pure love story game, you expect to get pure love story, right? so why would i want to see those who im supposed to fall in love with being all loveydovey with some other people, ESPECIALLY if these people are other lis??

Really cannot stand it! What's the point of otome or BL games if the LIs fall in love with each other? The protagonist should be getting all the attention and love. If the developer wanted the LIs to fall in love, then just make one of the LI into a protagonist instead.

Is this a recent development? I haven't played the game in a few months. I've got to say, I'm not really a fan of this. Plus it kind of undermines what the writer has said previously about the cast (except for potentially Vexx and Damon in the poly route) and what the game has to say. Particularly when the game literally tells you that they all are a family, Calderon and Ayame, and Sebastian and Ryona have dialogue addressing this. And the main writer's patreon has a whole appeal to it of "non-canon" scenarios between the ROs so it's kind of disappointing to hear this.

I swear this also wasn't mentioned anywhere on the patreon or back on the tumblr (when it existed) so now I regret having bought it.

It's been a while since I played and I kind of lost interest in playing the new build (I don't even know if the game is finished), so I remember this:

Sebastian and Ryona have feelings for each other and depending on your choices they end up together, even on one of their routes it's a little strange to me that they have feelings for each other.

Damon kind of gets into a throuple with his ex and her current boyfriend if you're not on his route.

The captain has a crush on our sister if we're not on his route.

Ayame has a crush on Khadar, a person who appears at the place where we reunite with our sister.

Vex and June are the only ones who don't have anything like that, if I'm not mistaken, at most if you're not on June's route, he says that some people are hitting on him (He doesn't realize it, but that's what's happening).

I didn't know about this Patreon thing, but it only confirmed that, yeah, it doesn't excite me at all.

I think it was rude on her (the main developer) part. When I played a few months ago this wasn't in the game and now that the game is near completion, when many have pledged to her and her game for years, she has added this content despite saying that any pairings except for the one poly route are non-canon. I don't think I'll support her any more. I'm fine with these plotlines existing but leaving out that this will occur until the game is almost finished is very troubling for any trust towards her DLC she also plans to release. And to think I felt bad for not paying for the demo until a month or two ago. This is to say, I don't think she's the worst person in the world but I'm no longer interested in her games.

So...Ayame's is the only one that makes plausible sense, huh. Have fun with the DLC getting less sales than the base game!!!

I don't like it tbh... depending on the approach, it either feels like a cheap way to end off the story, or it sidelines the MC. I don't mind poly endings (but I'd like them to be clearly advertised).

I'm also not into romance between LIs. Some games will pull it out of nowhere by the end, as if they decided to add a bit of fujobait by the end lmao. I already dislike it when it they push the MC away to try setting up the LIs, but it's even worse when it's clearly a last minute decision just to pair off all characters

I agree, I understand that developers and authors can't reveal the entire plot because, well, it loses the element of surprise, etc., but I think this kind of thing should be said somehow. Especially if the game is large, because, like, am I going to have to replay the whole game just to go to another route since I don't see the LIs together or something like that?! Especially if it's something that's paid and only comes out in updates! I'm sorry you spent money on this.

I played the Early Access version of Love at the Milky Way Diner, and
they imply that one LIs can have feelings for another LI? Not to mention that two characters are exes; the good thing is that one of them has already made it clear that she no longer has any feelings, but still...

Oh my god, yes!! You can clearly tell it was a final decision, like, at the last second they're together?? Especially since the whole game portrayed them as just good friends and then they drop this bombshell at the end.

While I think that's just one of many possibilities, personally, I don't really like seeing the LI fall in love with someone else.

Otome gamers play for the story between the LI and themselves (or the MC), not to watch the LI romance some random character. lol

The most egregious part is the game doesn't have anything different per route. You get the same scenes pretty much except for different dialogue lines and flavor text depending on who MC is romancing. She (Aerie; writer of Andromeda Six) told fans this wouldn't happen until it showed up in game very recently. That's why I bought it when it released onto Steam a bit ago, I wouldn't have bought it if I would have known. Also, it does come off as clumsily added in. There is NO romantic tension between any of these characters? Besides Ayame perhaps? Or am I supposed to believe she rewrote every chapter to both account for MC not romancing someone and to add romantic dialogue between the potential couples?

The reason why these devs hide this until the very end is their hope that you've paid for their game already. It's not due to spoilers, it's because they know not everyone likes this (actually, a lot less people than devs think actually enjoy ROs/LIs getting with other people!!) and want to ensure you don't leave until it's too late. Otherwise...if they know that they have an audience for this then they've would've marketed that their game has that feature. But they don't and we know why,

Sebastian and Ryonan – you can tell they like each other right from the start of the game. I had the impression that Damon still liked his ex when she appeared, but then she said there was nothing there and that we should keep persuading him, so I was relieved. But then, if we don't go his route, they end up together as a polyamorous/throuple with her current boyfriend, like?! When I saw that, I felt betrayed.

The Captain liking our sister is completely out of the blue. When I saw it for the first time, I stared at the screen for a long time wondering what I had missed.

If the developers do this on purpose, it scares me. It's such a scam. Developers like that should create a fixed story, not one with choices and customization; it makes no difference whatsoever...

Yeah, except for Vexx, Ayame, Calderon (though, where did this come from?!), and June's routes it undermines the MC and makes it feel like they're intruding on an already active relationship. MEANWHILE, the game said that Sebastian and Ryona and Damon and his ex were not interested in each other. That was a lie to get us to continue playing the game? And it truly does come out of nowhere when most games do this but the issue is that in this particular case a dev lied.
