How many otome/bl games do you finish per year?

I was wondering, on average, how many games do you finish per year? Or how many games do you start and leave unfinished?

I went through a long period where I played, at best, 0-3 games per year (mostly bl). Then I SO got back into otome games 5 years ago (thanks to the flood of localized games, MTL, and renewed interest🤣)
My personal best is 18 full-fledged commercial otome games per year. But now I read around 10-12 games per year, and that number continues to decline🥲
Plus, I start another 10-15 games per year, which I abandon after 5-10 hours🙃

girl id be happy if i could finish even one otome per year LMAO sorry im so pathetic in that regard (っ'-')╮=͟͟͞🍋)`-' )

i guess my standards for otome are way higher than for any other genre, or im just overly sensitive to certain elements, which is why im so hesitant to pick them up nowadays. theres just too much going on with the genre... the drama and stuff........;;
bl just flows a little easier for me, which is why i tend to read more bl. i finally finished room no.9 not long ago and im a little proud of myself! lol especially considering how satistied i was with itദ്ദി ˉ꒳ˉ )✧
actually right now im in my yuri phase, and ive been reading pretty much nothing but yuri these past couple of months. both vn-wise and manga-wise. so im afraid this year will be very rough for my otome side lol

2024: 96 finished, 27 partially finished or dropped
2025: 61 finished, 28 partially finished or dropped
2026: currently 52 finished, 15 partially finished or dropped

My tracker counts non otome-games too though
curious! which non-otome titles are you reading?:3c

For this year, some of the non-otome titles I played include:

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter
Atelier Resleriana The Red Alchemist & the White Guardian
Dangan Ronpa: Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei
Mahou Shoujo no Majo Saiban
Slay the Princess - The Pristine Cut
Tomodachi Life
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road (the monthly DLC updates)

ohhhh solid solid!! i remember finishing danganronpa back in 2020 when i read it 10+ hours per sitting, it was so nice;w; part 1 is still my favourite from the series!!
i cant wait for manosaba's official eng translation!!!!!! i heard theres some mtl patch that was released a couple of days ago, but like.. this is a little disrespectful ww.. but the vn itself looks so solid!

I think about 10-15 otome. But i playing not only otome games also some horror VN + many survival horror games. So i don't have time play many otomes.

I'd say I can probably finish around 1 visual novel per week, so more or less 50 titles a year, and around 1/4 of it is otoge. I also play other VN genres (horror, mystery, galge, eroge, BL, GL), and other games that aren't VNs (mainly survival horror and JRPGs!)

I probably could play a bit more, but I also spend my free time reading books or watching movies (though this year I've watched less than my average lol)

Thankfully, I have a lot of free time and read quite fast! I don't know if I'll be able to keep it up in the future, so I'm enjoying it while I can ;b

I haven't counted, so I don't know for sure, but I think I clear about 7 games a year.

Since I play a lot of mainstream games besides otome games...

But I'm thinking about focusing on otome games this year! There are just too many otome games I want to play TT

im a very fickle person when it comes to hobbies cause i refuse to play anything if im not feeling well or if i am just having a bad day (... or week ... or month) cause i wanna make sure my current mood doesnt affect what im playing but then it ends up affecting the number of games i actually finish lol

thankfully this year ive had more free time and have been feeling better so im already at 10 titles (otome and bl) but i know that last year wasnt good so i think i only finished 14(?) games and a lot of those titles were shorter ones

Around 3-5 titles including sequels/fan disks.
Although it's already halfway of 2026 and I'm still on my first full-length otome 😂😂

Time occupied by other events outside otomes and I'm trying to get back on track!
That dilemma when I wanna progress 300% faster but also wanna listen to voicelines thoroughly 🥹

It depends. When I'm busy, I might not play any games at all.

If I have a lot of free time, I can probably finish about two games a month, but it's hard to play them consistently for a whole year. I probably play fewer than ten games a year.

I'm usually so busy and slow with games that I need to have a counter that includes other titles at this point, to be honest. I consider finishing at least one game a year a win, though!

Hell, at this point I guess I could even include demos since even those take me time to play through haha.

So, uh, in terms of finished stuff not counting demos, I'm currently sitting at:
- 1 otome (but it was a replay, lmao)
- 1 general game
- almost 1 furry VN (I'm saying "almost" because I need to grab and play the DLC for it, but everything besides that I've 100%. oh dlcs you will be the end of me)

And I dropped one thing but to be fair it bored me to death and I have better things to do than falling asleep in front of my computer.

i've been on a mission to finish one vn each month this year and it's been going well though some months i have just completed a short vn to make the deadline

I complete like 1-2 games a year, but I start like maybe 5 games. I don't have a lot of free time and when I do, I play other games or I am sometimes too tired to read a VN so I just end up browsing internet and watching youtube.

Wow you're so productive! I just hope I can finish 3 full game per year and that's a win 😅
How can you finish so much, I'm curious? Do you dedicate specific time for otome or you just pick them up when you feel like it 😅

I think I'm a pretty fast reader and I also don't play on auto mode or wait for the characters to finish speaking before I move on to the next line.
The key reason is probably because I dedicate most of my free time outside of work / exercise / other commitments to games and when I play, I can go on for hours (on weekends). 😂

You're so good! I usually listen to all the voicelines of the characters I like or the VAs with nice voices, and just skip the others. But I still can't play as fast as you. Do you play the Japanese version as well, or just the localized/Western otome games?

I'm fluent in Japanese / Chinese / English so I can play both the original and localisations.

I play in Japanese usually for indie titles and games I'm sure won't receive a localisation (stares at Takuyo's games).
I also play Chinese / English indie games (right now I'm playing 搜查一刻 for instance).

For non-indie commercial titles, I prefer playing the localisations if there's the choice (Chinese localisation in particular because the translation quality is better in my opinion and there isn't usually a case of audio bonus not being translated). It's easier for me to read and a major plus is that it also saves me some amount of play time when it comes to bonus contents. E.g. for the audio Q n A bonus, or those CG comment audio bonus, I can just read the translation text instead of listening to each voice line fully playing. Wand of Fortune 2 FD (iirc) had some bonus "bitter chocolate" part where the characters say harsh lines and I'm just glad I don't have to sit through the full audio experience because I'm not a suffering enjoyer 😂 (I'd just have skipped the bitter chocolate audio part otherwise, if I weren't playing the localisation)

I probably only finish about two to five games a year because I tend to take things slowly and casually. Even when I try to push myself to play more, I'm still the type of person who can be a bit lazy. I really want to play games and find out what happens in the story, but I also move at my own pace. That's why it takes me quite a long time to finish even one game, especially if I want to complete every character's route hahaha.

Wow, you're not only determined but also talented, I'm really impressed! :akazukin_whoa: I often wonder how those who are proficient in the original language of the game feel when playing and hearing the boys say cheesy lines. Hearing you share about wanting to skip all the harsh words, I understand a bit now.

I'm soooo slow i know that last year (2025) i finished (100%) 23 games only when like 20 others were on my backlogs still waiting for me to finish them…( mostly because there's a specific route i can't stick to and get bored with…) but i'm doing my best to finish those this year right now…
