Do you like otome game fanfiction?

Personally, I've occasionally read fanfiction for certain movies, books, and non-otome games that I just couldn't get enough of, but never for otome games specifically. So, how about you?
By the way, while searching on AO3 out of curiosity, I noticed that Amnesia: Memories had the most results (268 to be exact) out of all the otome games I've played.
I also know Pixiv has fanfics, but since they're in Japanese, I probably wouldn't feel motivated to read them even if I were curious.

No, I've never liked fanfiction to begin with.

I've seen some but every time characters felt OOC.
Their actions and thoughts didn't match the way I was sure a character would react in this or that situation, so they felt like imposters to me.

Otome games fanfiction is fandisks, so no reason to search it anywhere else :) I love reading fanfics, but about works without romance in them, so it will be something new, and not an already existing story

Yeah, I get that. Bad fanfiction can really make characters feel like completely different people. I've had quite a few disappointments for that very reason.

I've not read much but it's not for a lack of trying T - T
Sometimes if I'm out of official content for a character and want more I'll look for fan fiction, but the offerings tend to be slim. Normally just a bunch of short oneshots that were written in one sitting, or BL ships which I normally don't have interest in

nope, not at all. there are way too many bl landmines, especially in the english fanfics (i saw someone praising an yves x h*go fic and was totally disgusted). im more than fine with the contents of the games i play, and even if there is something unfavourable, i leave it to my japanese sisters to tell the devs where they fucked up^^

...I actually do lol (I even like some BxB shipfic for otome games) Don't hate me guys T_T . Though, I only read on AO3 and I use their tag system to filter out what I dislike. There are times where I've stopped reading because I don't vibe with the content but I've also found some hidden gems...And it's a way to discover NSFW/18+ content for otome that doesn't originally have that stuff

When I first started playing otome games, I read a lot of fanfiction. Now, I don't read any at all... I feel like the game alone is enough😆

If I've read the official booklet and still want more, I occasionally read some fanfiction. Only when I really, really love a character, when the game has content restrictions, or when I feel a sense of regret after playing, do I turn to fanfiction to fill in the gaps. However, everyone understands the characters differently, and fanfic authors have their own interpretations. Sometimes they write the characters differently from the game, which can lead to them feeling out of character. So more often than not, I just write the stories for myself to read (?)

I don't think I've read any fanfic for otome games, but I also don't really read fanfic at all...

As others have mentioned, fandisks are mostly what I'd call otome fanfics (and even then, I don't play them too often lmao). I think I just prefer to spend my time playing new titles, and I barely interact with VN fandoms. I'm also not on more fandom-oriented social media (like twt), so I never see much discussion about fanfiction and stuff :b

I think the last time I was really into fanfiction when I in elementary school. And now for some reason, I just can't enjoy it like I used to. Like people already said in the comments, sometimes the characters get ooc that makes just feels weird to read. I feel like a lot of fanfiction is more about what the author wants, which can be pretty different from what readers are looking for. So for me now, fanfiction is just something to read for fun, nothing more than that.

I do like it a lot!! But like, very specifically the ones that are LI x reader, not LI x default heroine with default name... Lol... So there are veeery little I actually enjoy. I end up writing my own!
You get it!! I hate when it's tagged as a reader-insert but then uses the default name. This even applies outside of otome fics—that's just your OC; stop tagging it as reader-insert (;′⌒`)

i don't really read fanfictions in general, to be honest. It's just so hard to find something well written without OOC for me, especially something that i would like and it'll be interesting to read. so i better spend that time on some new titles

and a game alone is usually enough for me, with fandiscs it is even more that enough (and, as was mentioned, i kinda agree that fds are otome fanfics xd)

Right!!! It's like, who's this random lady??? That's not my name!! >:0
It makes me so annoyed specially in twisted wonderland stuff, which is joseimuke and not otome but the logic is the same lol like who tf is yuu when you're tagging your stuff as reader-insert? That's not my nameeeee that's literally a placeholder to say YOU, PLAYER, PERSON WHO DOWNLOADED THE GAME IT'S NOT THE SAME AS THE MANGA PROTAGONISTS AAAAAAA— sighs

This is a me problem, but if I'm looking on AO3, I'll first seek out FTM reader fics—most of the time they're the author's self-insert… 〒▽〒 Me like, who is this random guy?

That's why I love second-person POV for English reader-insert fics because there should be no need for a name. Hell, I might even take (Y/N) fics over the mistagged fics that use names. Oh yeah, Pixiv has a built-in function to replace the default name or symbol set by authors—as do other yume-focused fic websites. I would actually jump for joy if AO3 ever got that feature.

the only bad thing about otome fanfiction is that there are not enough.

personally i dont mind if its a little ooc, but in must be tagged as an oc, i love those worlds, so even if its someone else i can enjoy it. but if they tell you that you are the mc as the reader, and it gets in the oc, territory, thats were it gets anoying.

most of the time they're the author's self-insert
YES I've only glanced at a couple of those bcs I'm cis, but they all were exactly as you say!! :c
I recall looking up if ao3 ever thought about adding the name changing function like in Pixiv, but all I found was a big no because "it's too much work and almost nobody would use it" 🙃

We are nobody, I guess (´・ω・`)? The audacity to say that when there are a huge number of reader inserts on AO3, though. This would genuinely satisfy so many people because those who tag their OC fics as reader-insert could still do that, and readers could just replace the names without jumping through hoops using extensions or downloading it.

I've never read otome fanfics, mostly because I focus mostly on fics for non-romance works and legit haven't thought of seeking out fics for stuff that does focus on romance. Even then, I'm not a frequent fic reader and I tend to feel frustrated because there's barely any content I'm interested in when I do seek out fics.

That being said, I do agree that people need to tag their fics better in general, mistagging is so common that it's annoying.

AO3 outright refusing to add a name-changing feature for reader POV works sounds odd to me, but then again, I feel like that website keeps stagnating and is more on a "fixing small little things" route than actually adding features that could improve some people's QOL. I guess it shouldn't be too surprising from a website that took nearly 20 years to get out of beta (but hey, what do I know about web dev).

When I was younger - I tried, but most of them had, well, unsatisfactory quality. Some very questionable, sometimes kinda fever young girls dreams. )

Personally, I wouldn't read anyone else's otome fanfic unless it was very 1:1 with my personal interpretations. As every person's experience with an otome game is extremely variable (things such as the level of self-inserting, how you react to certain tropes, the choices/endings you prefer to follow up on, what exactly appeals to you about certain LIs or side characters), I find otome-related fic to be much more personal. Essentially, if I wanted otome-related fic, I would rather write it for myself and get 100% of what I want than count on someone else to see the same vision as me. However, just because I think this is the case doesn't mean I have any impulse to flame or judge anyone for diverging from my preferences.

To compare to my tendencies related to fanfic for other kinds of works, I read it quite often for TV shows, but for things like video games I will only read it for ships that do not involve the POV character, as that tends to run into similar issues re: self-inserting altering interpretations of the character (Specifically thinking about Trails fics, or certain FFXIV WoLships that I am personally invested in [to be truthful, this specific area is where I do get a bit overzealous and "no one understands this dynamic like me smh" about it, but that's exactly why I avoid it lol]).

I used to read so many novels that I'd finish every single one I came across.
I try not to look at the illustrations, though, since they're usually BL…
These days, I don't have much time, and I don't have the energy to search for fanfiction that matches my tastes. The tags are often wrong, and the quality isn't always great either.

absolutely <3
especially when it is my OTP and I am still drunken/drowned in sorrow after finishing the main game (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)
