Do game spoilers (plot, CG, etc.) bother you? Or do you prefer seeing them?

when i say spoilers it ranges from plot points of different routes to CGs to secret love interests to even things like alluding whether a character will have important reveal to them ...!

ive found that im someone in the minority where i actually enjoy game spoilers quite a bit! there have been times where getting a plot point spoiled or seeing a gorgeous CG has been what actually got me interested in the game so i find them to be quite useful when determining what games i should prioritize in my backlog ^^

i think the only spoilers i dont enjoy are ones related to death or like core plot reveals such as betrayals or pretending identities since i love experiencing those firsthand but aside from those the minor ones like secret love interests or CGs are things i prefer to get spoiled about ...!

i also am the kind of person who actively reads reviews before trying anything out so it is kind of inevitable that i get spoilers about most games since im kind of seeking them out myself </3 a good example would be the identity and trope of the secret love interest #1 from sympathy kiss !! i was very neutral on the game when it got localized however someone mentioned a spoiler about him and it hooked me so bad that i ended up getting the game for him (which ended up being a good decision since he was my favorite li in the game)

haha, same with symkiss! i got the game on a pretty good deal just for the secret love interest #1 and i don't regret it

but im the same, honestly i don't really mind spoiler cgs that much, especially if they're so removed from context or just something very general like a late game kiss cg. there are alot of times i get interested in an otome because i see a spoiler cg and it makes me go "oh i didn't know this game was like that..."

i also use vndb alot to search so i inevitably always get spoiled for characters and their tropes, but for me i don't mind knowing basically the premise of the character. i do try to avoid big spoilers for the actual routes themselves though

girlies on twitter seem to be very critical of any spoilers ever, which is understandable, but in my case, if i see a cg that is "spoilery" or whatever, i feel.. nothing? mostly because if i play a game right this moment (and potentially spoiling myself in the process of checking if it doesnt have any triggers or landmines anyway), i probably wouldnt be interested in coming into contact with anything regarding that game, and i tend to think im pretty good at dodging unsolicited cgs ww also, if its a spoilery cg for a game i never played, i kinda dont even understand that its spoilery LMAO like ive seen otome girlies on twitter grilling some girl for showcasing spoiler cgs, and to me they were whatever? like damn this dude is holding a gun, so cool

if anything, i personally only notice spoilery cgs for a very small selection of games, namely cxm, amnesia and virche. there are definitely others, but as i said, if i havent played the game, how am i gonna know these cgs are spoilers? i hope it makes sense www luckily for the next games on my list, honey vibes and my9swallows, i have no idea whats going on with the plot or romance or cgs or whatever because theres literally ZERO discussions of them on the eng side of the internet lol! i didnt even know my9swallows involved idols, i thought its just a spokon game WW

so yea, generally im not that mad about spoilers i think. i mean if i see or read something spoilery it is gonna sour my mood for a bit, but thats just how my highly selective memory works -- the more i try to suppress it, the more this detail is ingrained into my brain:(

its the same with vndb for me too !! there have been games where i didnt even realize a love interest was meant to be secret because i knew them from the main characters section of vndb alr lol but even ignoring that the character design and character voices usually gives it away

these are my feelings on it too !! like a. i will most likely not even remember i saw this when i start playing the game or b. even if it is something memorable in my case i just start getting excited for it like waow how did we get to this i need to know!

ill be honest even for those three games the only one i can imagine feeling upset by getting spoiled over would be cxm since thats a mystery game but amnesia has been out for so long and the most shock value thing in that game is toma who gets his lashings every other day so whats there to even be spoiled about TT

also i'd be happy to hear your thoughts on my9swallows when you do try it out cause ive heard literally nothing about it either lol ^^ i know a bit about honey vibes since its in my backlog and i do know some people talk about how its the perfect summer "spicy" vacation game ^^

yes same same! sometimes a spoiler cg for any game invokes not anger or disappointment, but rather a "what the hell happened and how do i even get there??" kind of feeling LOL. also i guess im pretty bad with visual spoilers because i remember reading some non-otome vns and even though i checked their cgs like, three times each lmao i was still getting surprised or mentally harmed when i encountered these scenes in the vn itself!! so even if you think you accidentally stumbled upon a spoiler, your brain might have different plans for you after all......

oh theyre not joking about "spicy" part at all because even though its a non-r18 title, one of the cgs on vndb is tagged as explicit because of how "inappropriate" it is LMAO so yea guess im quite excited! especially since summer is right around the corner x3

I don't mind it too much, unless is a big reveal about a route (but even then, it's only mildly annoying to me lol)

I like to watch the openings, and sometimes they'll have some spoilery cgs too ;b
As for secret routes, most of the time the secret LI is pretty obvious, so it's not something I'd get mad about

I've played enough VNs that sometimes I catch where the story is going in the first routes... to me the fun is seeing how the story develops, so that's why spoilers don't bother me too much

I think it depends on the extent of the spoilers.
I don't mind a general review to temper my expectations or warn me so that I can prepare myself accordingly, but I'd rather not be spoiled about plot or story since that takes the fun out of my own reading of the VN.

I remember walking into Matsurika no Kei cautiously because someone expressed their frustration about the treatment of a certain LI, and perhaps because of that, I went in with low expectations for said route and walked away thinking it was...an okay experience (though I could understand the frustration).

I don't mind seeing CG spoilers especially since a lot of the time it might entice me to play the game for myself! I would only get upset with a spoiler if I was in the middle of playing the game and I was spoiled on a plot point or a twist later on which would ruin the impact it had on me. I think that's only happened once in my VN playing history, and I can tell you I was not happy LOL

personally it doesn't bother me too much! even if i see a spoilery cg i won't fully know the context behind it so if anything, it makes me more curious... sometimes i'll seek them out myself. but i understand it's good to be mindful for those who do

It doesn't really bother me that much. Sometimes a spoiler CG even makes me more curious about the game. You're bound to run into a spoiler or two when looking up stuff about a game, so it's no big deal. Another reason might be that I tend to forget things pretty easily — I'll probably forget about it in a few days anyway, lol.

i don't mind some minor spoilers, it can even help to pique my interest to the game, especially CGs! some major twists i prefer to see myself, but even that doesn't bother me much. I also often use vndb to see the characters and their trops

It depends on the spoiler. If it's something like a character revealing themselves to be evil when we thought they were an ally, then I get a little upset, but it's more because I won't be surprised or have the chance to suspect them than anything else. .·°՞(っ-ᯅ-ς)՞°·. I like the element of surprise in those cases.

But if it's something like a certain route containing content that makes me uncomfortable, then I always check the list. CGs make me curious about the game, again, if it's not something extremely revealing.

But in the end, when it's a work I'm not following, sometimes I see everything that happens and then play the game; I don't care much. But if it's a game I'm following and love very much, then I avoid everything! (..◜ᴗ◝..)

I love spoilers and spoiler-filled reviews. I don't take the plots in VN very seriously, so spoilers don't change anything for me 😆 On the contrary, a good spoiler can spark interest in a game

I also often look at ALL CGs before the game itself to decide whether to play or not 🙃

I do care about spoilers, but I'm not completely against them. I'm okay with seeing a little bit to see if a game matches my tastes. Still, I try to avoid spoilers as much as possible because I want to have a fresher experience.

for me it really depends on the type of spoiler 😭 when it comes to major story reveals i usually don't like them, especially if they're super important twists or betrayals since i love experiencing those firsthand!!

but things like CGs, secret routes/love interests, or even small character details actually make me more curious about the game 👀 for some reason i also weirdly enjoy finally reaching the part i got spoiled on sksksklol it's like "omg THIS is the scene everyone was talking about..."

so i'm kind of in the middle where some spoilers ruin the experience for me while others genuinely make me more excited to play!!

Tbf I'm probably one of the pickiest persons when we're talking spoilers because even trigger warnings for me are spoiler, I rather know nothing about a story, just the summary from the store and that's it. Since I don't have any triggers even the smallest amount of info that can only be known from playing the game bother me, so I always avoid spoilers.

There have been cases I've seen gorgeous CG's that made me want to play a game but I've put the game on hold for a few years before doing so (so I could forget the spoiler).

It's a picky take, but it works for me. I love being 100% in the dark, I love being surprised in a good and bad way.

I'm kinda 50-50 on it. ¯\(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)/¯
I'd like to not waste my time with a game that a mild spoiler could tell me earlier that it's not my type of game (cheating, feelings for ex, less than stellar romance etc).

But, if it's a mystery or thriller type that has a plot twist that's genuinely surprising? I'd totally be upset because it will sort of taint the experience as a humdrum waiting for that moment. o(`ω´*)o

CG spoilers don't usually bother me as it's mainly romantic ones and that would only further serve as an incentive to play the game. I, like many others, usually read reviews first and so it's hard to remain spoiler-free entirely while trying to see if I actually want to invest time playing.

In terms of plot, I don't think ever getting spoiled on a major twist or anything upset me. I can still enjoy the story even if I know the big reveal. Reminds me of the Sixth Sense movie, where I knew the major spoiler before ever even knowing about the movie. I generally don't follow the walk-through guide where they suggest the least-spoiler routes first, so sometimes I play the most spoiler-y route first and end up knowing the mysteries/plot twists of the other routes! For CGs I really do not care because it can still be ambiguous about what's going to happen. Like, the LI has this creepy look on their face, like they're confessing a dark plot secret, but I mean, in my imagination that could be anything. Even the one's that are more intense, say in Amnesia with Toma and the cage, I had seen that CG before ever playing but I did not know the context of why it was happening, so all I knew was it happened, but not why it happened, and it did not bother me.
