For older games, do you wait for ports or just dive in?

The thought occurred to me since I was scanning through my backlog to decide which PSV game to start clearing on my newly purchased PSV.

For myself, I have some games I commented under the my backlog tracker's "notes" column with comments like "Pending, wait for news of port", because the company has a record of porting some of their games to Switch (e.g. Honeybee, Rejet), or because the games seemed like something Otomate would consider porting to Switch, and indeed there were some games that were announced for Switch while I was waiting (hoping) for it to happen (e.g. Glass Heart Princess, Yuukyuu no Tierblade and Toki no Kizuna).

So yeah, back to my question. I'm curious how everyone else approaches this. Do you just play the available version if you already have access to the console, or do you hold off in case a newer port gets announced later?

I just play it lol
Since I have a Vita, PSP/Vita games are not a problem to me, so I prefer to just play them (enjoy your new device! <3). I also enjoy older UIs and game styles, and don't mind troubleshooting compatibility issues (I think it's quite fun! Haha). I have access to a 3DS too.

I'm also pretty used to stuff like emulators and virtual machines, so I haven't encountered any big hurdles to play older games. I'll usually emulate titles in the PS2 (although there's not many exclusive otoge there nowadays), but I'm thinking of buying the console as it's a favorite of mine ;)

i dont have any handheld console (no psp no psv no switch etc) and mainly play on pc using emulators, so im afraid that if i was actively putting off every game and wait for their pc port.. i would finish like, four games max LOL
so no, im perfectly fine with using whatever emulator i might need to actually experience a game! thankfully there are so many tutorials and translation/ocr tools out there nowadays youll probably have no trouble with playing any game:) (as long as you can find it online of course..!)

I play through emulators, recently completed the otome game SNOW BOUND LAND, I hope it will be ported to Switch or Vita someday.

I actually prefer emulator too for larger screen and lack of need to charge my console but some games don't run on emulators OTL

If it really interests me, I'd use emulator to play it. I know ports must rely on how popular the game is and/or if the devs willing to go for a mile to make it happen, which is kindaa unpredictable, so I might as well save the hassle of waiting and just play it with whatever means I can lmao

If it's an older game I used to play that got a new port, I think I'd like to try playing it again too. Or if I left a game unfinished, I might continue playing it on the original console if the story doesn't seem too different 😊

If its an older game and hasn't been localized I just dive in with the consoles I have or I just use an emulator if I don't have them. If I own it, and there's a port for steam/newer console I don't buy it since I already have the OG. I do this with non-otome games as well, I have my classic consoles so I never buy ports/remasters lol.

I don't wait, unless I have just recently found out about it and there is a confirmed port (usually I only hear of the game BECAUSE it's getting a port). I don't have much hope about games getting ports, in fact I assume nothing is getting a port, so I just play it as I can get it.

I just play the game if I am interested in it
Recently even if a game gets ported there is nothing new added not like in the past when they used to add new little scenes ><
