If you could wipe out one trope in Otome what would it be and why?

I'm curious about everyone's take would be for this. I hate the "Womaniser who hates women" trope. Why is it that when they are in the game they are the most insulting rude and obnoxious characters that just completely degrade the protagonists femininity to try and "win them over."

I dislike the womaniser trope in general. Especially when he has done this and that with almost any woman in a 30km radius. But even more then that is the doomed ending trope. Like plz don't do this to me. Ozmafia has traumatised me.

Honestly so true. I don't mind a character with general issues with women perhaps due to the past etc but one that just sexualises or dehumanised them for being a woman? What's hot about that?!

Exactly that, but then also, I don't like the trope of a insanely promiscuous and mysoginistic man getting with an innocent, pure and kind woman. Like no plz stay away

Personally, I also dislike the whole womaniser trope in general but it comes more in how it's executed most of the time. I remember vividly being extremely frustrated in Ikki's route in Amnesia: Memories because of the whole fanclub in general, while I didn't exactly mind him, his fanclub on the other hand... yeah, no thanks xd If I had to deal with all that in real life, I wouldn't even bother

I liked ikki a loooot because there was a reason it wasn't really his true self, whereas the ones that have no reason for how they are - they are just horrendous. The fanclub goes straight in the bin though.

I did like Ikki. As a character, I didn't like him at the beginning because of my own judgement towards the playboy kind of characters but I always like giving the LIs a chance and he ended up surprising me. I too, ended up liking him a lot, if it wasn't for his fanclub

Have you played Mistonia no Kibou -The Lost Delight- ? Ascot was another one of those womanising characters I really enjoyed surprisingly. If you haven't, do give it a go as his character was surprisingly complex!

Actually, I haven't, I'm slowly going through every otome game in the switch but I wasn't aware of this one!

i have a low tolerance for a lot of taboo tropes but mainly incest & inappropriate age gaps, which are both things that usually appear in at least one route in a lot of the otome games i've played. also, LIs that are abusive, misogynist or womanizers!!

I hate the LI who straight up abuse the MC no matter the circumstances, or who are intentionally cruel :)) especially if the LI has no good reason and faces no consequences for their actions. I also hate misogynistic LIs (Expect if the LI has understandable reasons due to the game's setting and is trying to be better; then, I may consider it)

i love a slow burn but i hate when miscommunication tropes are the reason it takes so long for them to get together. it's so frustrating when they both like each other and miscommunications just start happening for the sole purpose of delaying them getting together. i also absolutely agree with hating misogynistic womanizer LIs (there are enough of those in real life lol) and when games unfairly act like rude LIs are completely changed/redeemed after one nice action after they've been mean the entire game.

I completely agree! Like, do they have no mouth?? If there are reasons keeping them from communicating then maybe, but still :))))

I agree that the cliché of the womanizer who hates women and, not content with that, sleeps with everyone, then wants to be with the protagonist to prove to himself that he's just like the others, and when she doesn't reciprocate, his mask falls off and he treats her like garbage, and so on throughout the game until a gesture of affection with a good soundtrack fixes everything and voila, they become a couple. I understand that if it's not the womanizer, but rather that she's mistreated, I can understand people being standoffish, distrustful, or traumatized, but to be treated like a sack of potatoes, demeaned to be less than human, that's not for me. And I'm talking to you, Hiiro no Kakera (I have a toxic love-hate relationship with that game).

This does my head in. I enjoyed Cupid parasite because she actually had sense in relationships and sexual conversations! Give me more of those protagonists...🫪
