I was discussing this topic with a friend a few days ago, and I thought she made a really good point. I'm curious, If no recommended walkthrough order is given, do people usually play their favorite character's route first or last?🤔

I usually save my favorite character's route for last. But I can't help peeking at his route at the beginning, then backing out to play other people's routes.(^^)

I panic lmao. I like not to think about the order and go by the recommended one. But if there is not any I can go by, then I just go for the guy who piques my interest, but in a 7/10 way. Probably would left my potential 10/10 last

I save the route I'm most interested in for last! I prefer starting with the ones I liked the least. Sometimes I get pleasantly surprised by them, and sometimes the one I'm looking forward to ends up as my least favorite lol

If there's no recommended order, I actually do both haha. It depends on the game and how I feel about the characters as I'm going through the common route. Sometimes I want to do the routes of the characters I'm least interested in first just to get them out of the way but if I'm worried I'll be disappointed by them or they'll affect my initial enjoyment of the game, I'll do my fave first just so I'm off to a good start and will likely continuing playing the game.

Honestly, I am surprised by the importance on people put on route orders, are they such a thing or is it just something players come together to put into pieces on "you should play these in order"? I don't get it but I do enjoy seeing how people play their otomes differently. <3

Even if there is a walkthrough order, I tend to play whoever catches my eye first (though, I go in blind so I don't always end up on their route anyways lol). I don't really care about plot spoilers or other route spoilers, in fact sometimes it's fun playing a more spoiler-y route first, and then going onto another route and knowing what's actually going on behind the scenes!

If possible, I like to leave the character I'm most interested in to be right before the last route in the recommended order to motivate myself and finish the game in case it gets too boring(unless I'm limited by the forced order).

i tend to go for my favorite character first, regardless of recommended order. then when i go through all the other routes for completion i will follow the recommended order

Gotta leave the best for last!
I think the same way you do, saving my favorite for last is what motivates me to finish the entire game. If I play my favorite character's route first, it's easy to lose interest and give up before reaching the end.

I pick a character that catches my eye and start the game, but since I play while second-guessing myself, I tend to end up half-hearted. So I end up starting over from the beginning.

I like to play blind in my first playthrough, but I will pick choices that I think will get me closer to the character who first caught my eye. Sometimes, it works, but other times it doesn't and I end up going in a completely different direction, which is part of the fun for me!

After that, I go for my initial favorite LI properly using a guide.

I should try saving my fav LI for last one day, but I'm always afraid of being disappointed playing my initial favorite chara's route after a particularly impactful route, so I'd rather "get the goods" quickly, so to speak.

When the game allows me to directly select the Lis, sometimes I choose the one I like best, other times I leave it for the end; it depends a lot on my mood at the time. Now, when there are only vague choices on the common route, I select the options that I think are right to do or say at the time and wait to see which route I end up on (or if I get a bad ending right away, like what happened when I played Virche lol)

It's hard to say, because I strictly follow the recommended route order, so the LI I like at first sight isn't necessarily at the very end. If there's no recommended order, I tend to save my favorite character's route for last.

for main games, i like to follow recommended route orders since i care a lot about experiencing the plot very "naturally" -- i enjoy getting surprised by plot twists and learning more about the world!

when it comes to fandiscs, though, i always order LIs from least favorite to most favorite! i always feel very empty after finishing an otome (i don't know if anyone else feels that way maybe i'm weird) so i like to leave off on a good note by saying goodbye to my fave last :D

I always go for the route I think is most interesting first, but they are often locked out :-\

Start by playing the character that the most attractive, and leave the others for later; that way, if it turns out not to be fun, you won't have wasted your time—plus, it makes it easier to get into the story.

I play my favorites last (。・∀・)ノ゙! Sometimes I try to judge a character quickly by their common route behavior, but you'd be surprised to find out how different they can be in their routes. I still try to love of all of them, but I admittedly have preferences shifted around once I played everyone's route through.

Route orders are so important to me though because when the first one you play has too much plot and the next one has too little, I feel so restless!

I don't have the self-control to keep favorite characters for last, but then I might also stop playing because there is nothing more to look forward to.
