Pet peeve in otome/BL games

Do you have any pet peeves when playing otome/BL? It can be anything--from the sprite art, sound, or the writing.

I have a few, but off the top of my head is stupid and slow MCs that let themselves be fooled by others. You can definitely be kind AND smart or at least aware enough when other people are trying to take advantage of you.

Also specifically in BL games I don't like when the MC looks too feminine. I'd rather pick up an otome if I want a feminine MC.

It annoys me so much the background art doesn't match with the sprites of characters. They look jarring and disturb my focus.

I just don't like when the entire route is when a mean/evil LI has not improved or gotten even a hint of character development by the end. One of the enjoyable parts of going after a guy with a crappy personality is the gratification of making him a better person (or at least sweeter to the MC) imo

It's not that common but a dead girlfriend/prominent ex in the picture. Just as someone said, no character development is super unsatisfying.

I mostly play BL games and I too have a hard time with feminine MCs as well. It can be a huge deal breaker even if the art is gorgeos. Otherwise I really get distracted by 3d backgrounds. I know they're used a lot in VNs but unless they're incorporated very smoothly and blend well into the 2d style it really annoys me.

I really dislike when supposed tsunderes or yanderes are too much tsun or yan and very little dere. At this point they are just an asshole and a psychopath with no love for the heroine

It bothers me so much, especially if the character was known to be an asshole beforehand.

I'd say when the choices actually don't make a difference. I don't like when the endings are almost identical no matter what you choose. Or barely any variation at all

I was there! There's no need to remind me of the same scene five times! Haha

OMG yes! I am sick and tired of having stupidly naive MCs. Can't I just have at least ONE MC that's competent and doesn't have the survival instincts of a fart. It's especially off-putting when the MC has a job in a career that would require good problem solving skills, yet the MC can't even do that and has to rely on the LIs to spoon feed her the information . Or if the MC is suppose to be a good fighter but has to be saved every single time by the LIs.

If the protagonist doesn't have any sort of character growth throughout the routes. Or if they are a complete doormat, unless it's a psychological and trauma response of course!

Art-wise... mixing art styles, awkward standing poses for sprites, BGs that don't match the text.
Writing-wise... 100% to having repeating flashbacks. Dumb obviously bad options that exist just so you get a sudden bad ending (looking at you Ichika from Collar x Malice).

Sometimes some people don't want to fix them and want them worse lol

我的天啊！我真是受够了那些愚蠢天真的主角。难道就不能有一个能力强点、生存本能比屁还弱的主角吗？尤其让人反感的是，有些主角明明从事需要出色问题解决能力的工作，却连这点都做不到，还得靠恋爱对象喂饭。或者有些主角明明是个身手不凡的战士，却每次都得靠恋爱对象来救。

是的，我完全同意你的看法，尤其是当主角明明能力很强，却总是需要被拯救的时候。爱情故事肯定有更好的写法。

I, too, am in the same boat on choices. It irks me to no end that some choices are just a difference sentence rather than a different outcome.

I also dislike when there's memory discrepancies. Remember my choices, game! ರ⁠╭⁠╮⁠ರ I like being in the world and something misremembered throws me totally off.

I don't like it when unnecessary choices that don't affect the ending appear too often.

So many things... misunderstandings that would take two seconds to fix if they just talked, and choices worded so similarly you'd need to be psychic to pick the right one. Also MC being so inexperienced that holding hands with one of the LIs sends her into a full meltdown. And when there's an age gap between MC and LI and the game will not stop bringing it up... mentioning it once or twice is fine but constantly hammering it in just gets exhausting
