Do you use the in-game dictionary when playing otome games? If so, how often?

Not much. I remember mostly using it while playing CollarxMalice. I took long breaks after playing each route sooo

Oh wow, interesting to see people's answers, I always without fail have to read the definition if it's there!

I use it for lore based terms like in fantasy otome games and another use would be for historical context :P

Its gotta be for some japanese term /historical term, sometimes they be adding anything into those dictionaries

I only use it if i don't understand the term or in rare cases when I'm in the mood to read them

Not really...I kinda get the hang of the word once it pops up once and after it shows up once in a while, but I think it's helpful when it comes to certain genres like historical ones

I only use it when its a place or person most of the time its very obvious what they are talking about so theres no need to use it. (´・ω・`)

Yeah that's how I feel. Most of the time I don't need it because I already know what it is (felt this way a lot in Piofiore, where many of them were Italian things that I already knew), but if it's historical I am more likely!

i basically never use it and i usally just ignore it and keep going. most of the time the game explains things well enough anyway.

but every once in a while when a game starts throwing out some absolutely ridiculous terms (looking at you temirana lol), i'll check it cause im confused as heck

Usually not as it's frequently self-explanatory, although I do look up something if I don't get the context

I only read it if it's interesting and the dictionary have fun ways to explain - sarcastic vibe or something like that but if it's dictionary, unless it's important to the story, I'd pretend it didn't exist. Sometimes, I even forgot it existed. I work in an industry that you need to read manuals to be able to do your work...so it burns my eyes to read more robotic explainations.

If it's a historical otome (i.e. Hakuoki or the recently released Homura), then the dictionary has been my absolute best friend in understanding some of these terms, though I like games where the dictionary is a neat extra rather than a requirement for the experience.

I find myself opening dictionary if the term often get repeated (possibly important to the plot) but most of the time I just try to guess the meaning of the word based on context due to my laziness… (-.-;)

I honestly think it depends but usually I will only look at it once for my first playthrough and then not again unless I've been away from the game for awhile!

I actually do AHAHAH I used to not check it as much but for certain titles like Mistonia's Hope I started using it because I couldn't remember some of the terms.

Yes. I read all the game dictionaries, which helps me understand the in-game world.

I rarely use the dictionary feature unless it's displayed right on the screen. It makes translating such a chore, so in most cases, I prefer not having one at all.

I've never used it even in untranslated games, usually the word is explained in the dialogue anyways
