Many of us probably have a love interest we liked (or, at least, didn't hate) who we feel gets sass from the community for one reason or another. Obviously everyone can hold any opinion they want about a given story, but sometimes we just want to exasperatedly go "but it's so much deeper than that!" So, use this space to stand up for the (in your opinion) unfairly slandered!

I'll start with my pet leave-him-alone: Ikki from Amnesia. It seems like a lot of people get about half an hour into his route, can't stand the playboy dynamic, and drop him or skip through his route to the rest of the game. While there might be a small part of him that likes the attention, I thought it was very clear from the beginning of the route that he genuinely liked the MC and was distantly sad the arrangement with her was so superficial. And you find out along the way that he's really a romantic who hates the playboy life, but he's resigned himself to constantly give himself away to a revolving door of girls he doesn't really like just to keep the peace, because of that unnatural charm gaze that he's come to view as a curse. The boy is lonely and hates that he's being a playboy as much as you do. He's dying for real connection. Ikki is a sweetheart and a (too) selfless gentleman. Leave him alone.

MY TIME TO SHINE This is about Dante in Orlok 's Bad Ending.

Most people think he was out of character in this bad ending but HEAR ME OUT PLEASE: this man was raised to think of himself as the rightful owner of his town, to be the leader of a criminal empire who has a holy duty larger than life in protecting the relic and the key maiden... who is, also, deeply sensitive, emotional and impulsive, who doesn't see himself as half the leader his father was, who doesn't trust himself or his abilities fully, whose mental stability depends on his loved ones being safe and sound and by his side. Take this mess of a man, put him in a position of power and responsibility, then take away his older brother figure by having him killed by the same guy who killed his father and, to top it all off, has "stolen away" his birthright "inheritance": the role of protecting the key maiden who BY THE WAY happens to be the same girl he's been in love with for decades. You're telling me that this mentally fragile man who was raised to be an entitled, arrogant mob boss with nobility delusions is NOT going to fall off the deep end and do horrible things to ascertain his identity and place in the world? The Heroine was all that remained of the life he knew, aspired to and wanted, so his cruelty towards her in SAing her not only solidified his role as the keeper of the grave (though I do agree they could've had a MS where he found the same book of his Good Ending where he saw the ritual's details for a better impact), it also was a way to get back at Orlok. He took his family from him, so now he's taking his precious lover in payback. And later, when he says he'll cut the Heroine's tendons so she can never run away... seriously. Did anyone expect any less? This is a mafia boss we're talking about! And again, he was raised for the role! To take things by force! Is it deplorable, is it disgusting? Absolutely yeah it is. But does it make sense for the character and the setting? ALSO YES IT IS.

Not to mention in my totally biased opinion: evil (lowkey kinda sorta) yandere Dante is a thousand times hotter and cooler than Yang. THE LINE DELIVERY OF THAT LAST LINE IN THE BASEMENT DUDE. (seiyuu name) Ishikawa Kaito I bow before your acting skills IT WAS GENIUS and I need more of Dante's deep voice I CANNOT GET ENOUGH.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Part of the fun of bad endings is seeing how much it takes to break the characters you've gotten to know and how bad things go when they do break. One of the reasons I enjoyed Piofiore so much was that all the guys had tons of opportunities to show every side of their personality -- they were all so sweet in their routes, but outside them, they reminded you why people feared the mafia. And yeah, I agree: Dante had basically lost everything by that point. It's no wonder he broke that hard. I don't think it was out of character at all, considering everything that happened to him by then.

As the fake Wilson sisters say in the movie White Chicks:

I'm going to be Gil's lawyer from CupiPara lol. Regarding Gil, I understand when people say he's too clingy and obsessed with Lynette, however, I never saw him cross the line, and he always showed that he cared too much about Lynette. In my opinion, after Allan, I feel that he was the one who had the strongest emotions and feelings for her more than any other Li in the game, and that's why it always broke my heart when I was playing another route and he seemed sad ಥ‿ಥ The type of love and affection he shows isn't exaggerated or toxic at all for him to receive as much criticism as I've seen online. I even find it somewhat contradictory and comical when people seem so fond of Yanderes who are extremely toxic and unstable, but for a relatively normal guy like Gil they find him too "clingy", "creepy" and "obsessed." Huh? ¯\(°_o)/¯

Well said. Dante in Orlok's BE is my favorite Dante lol.
I don't think it's OOC at all. His behaviour makes perfect sense, given everything that's happened.

And I think a lot of the Japanese fandom would agree with you too, seeing how many Orlok BE's Dante fanfics there are on pixiv. 🤭
