I'm currently somewhere in N3 and I enjoy playing otome games as a form of immersion and learn new words, so I was thinking of playing Nil Admirari because the english localization is unfortunately a long way off 🥲.. So I was wondering if the japanese in this game is very advanced (like Ken ga Kimi) or if it's possible to play without having to look up a dictionary every sentence?

I would say N3 is a great point to be in study wise but, if you are playing from your PC there is no harm in checking out the playing unlocalized game guide we have up there and checking the "learning Japanese" method.

Or joining the discord we have for JP learners.

Id say n3-2 is good for Nil, but it depends how strong your kanji is.

Hello, it depends on your previous experiences. According to this site https://linlinlavender.com/otome-difficulty-list-for-learners/, the game is at 4/5 difficulty. Although it is mainly a subjective rating, it can be a big jump from simpler novels like Brother Conflict or Diabolik Lovers. I personally have yet to play Nil Admirari, but I heard from friends and it checks out with the difficulty mentioned above.

So maybe I need to try and see for myself, and personally I didn't know about this list, it will be a great reference, thanks!!

Sadly, Nil Admirari is still not added, but I recommend cross-referencing: https://jiten.moe/decks/media?mediaType=7&offset=0&tags=70, it has some otome games, and you can get some sweet metadata as the number of characters, difficulty, vocabulary and some cool stats

(e.g. here it is for 9rip: https://jiten.moe/decks/media/119034/stats) :goodtea:

It's not as hard as Ken ga Kimi, but the scenario writer Katagiri Yuuma loves to use more "sophisticated" Kanji that gives her games like Nil Ado and OlySoi a more literature type of vibe. Like instead of 見つめる, it uses 凝視めるetc.
So you'll still have to look up a considerable amount. It probably won't be smooth sailing.
I personally think it doesn't hurt to try it out tho. Worse comes to worse, you can just pause it and come back to it later.
