Buying a Switch for Otome

I personally don't play any download beyond 10% and then decide to buy it or not.

My otome game shelf is overflowing. When I do buy games I purchase the limited edition or the sweet boxes / hime boxes. I visit all the pop up cafes and merch pop ups etc

I love physical copies a lot but have started to back up a lot of games so I can have the freedom of playing on

I love physical copies a lot but have started to back up a lot of games so I can have the freedom of playing on my PC.
I usually get otome and other games for my computer on steam, but because of the different reviews, I don't always know if I'll like the game or not. For example, I didn't like Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid, and I apologize to their fans. (This is purely my subjective opinion) I've realized that stealth games are not my thing, and I don't like games that require a lot of crafting. I also find otome games with filling out various game stats for the heroine tedious, but I know people who love them.

Yes, the Switch is very convenient to play on. It's true you can play on a PC, but each time you play you have to open your laptop, open an emulator, and so on. Not to mention, sitting for a long time will be tiring. With the Switch, you can just open the console, lie down and play, roll around comfortably on your bed. It's just like playing on your phone.

Furthermore, another important factor is that not all games can be opened with emulators. I've seen quite a few game download topics with comments expressing that emulators were cracked when opening the game. And what if one day, Switch emulators disappear? Many popular emulators from the past are gone, like Yuzu.

Also, otome games aren't always simple; some games combine music and complex mini-games, making playing on an emulator a big problem. For example, I played Jack Jeanne on my Switch and sometimes couldn't even press the buttons fast enough, let alone on a PC. Not to mention that a PC needs a decent configuration to run those kinds of games smoothly.

Finally, if you're on a tight budget, you should buy the modded version. I find it quite cheap, costing around $200. It's even cheaper if you buy it from online groups. The only inconvenience is that you can't play online, but most otome games are offline (excluding gacha games, which I can play on my phone), so I don't see it as a real inconvenient.

A modded Switch can run both forum releases and legitimate cartridges. Whenever a game really impresses me, I buy an official copy—usually after finishing it or at least halfway through—to keep on the shelf. You might try the same: supporting the official release gives companies the money they need to keep making otome titles. I come from a place where modding is common; among my friends, plenty of girls with the means either play on a modded console or stick strictly to genuine carts, and both groups coexist just fine.

Depends how you like to play your games,if you can mod your switch or have the money. I prefer android devices to play my otome games(through emulator). Then there is the PC if you rather play at your desk, also through emulator. For switch, if you want to get the download links from AS, you have to have a modded switch(or buy all the otome games you want without AS) while the other two options require only an emulator.

You can also check out your local library for switch games and systems! To be fair, libraries that do let you borrow switches can be rare, but video games should be more common (depending on where you live). If your local library does lend out video games, you can put in requests for upcoming titles as well. It's a great way to support both the library system and the publishers!

Considering the amount of otome games that are localizing and the frequent sales (most of them can be bought for -50%) that they get, I think it is worthy to get a nintendo Switch (specially if you like portability and play in any place, not only on a desk). Moreover, if you know japanese or want to learn, as long as you have a japanese account (and paypal) you can also access to japanese-only otome games

Totally worth it www I've already bought a PS Vita and a Switch just for otome games, and the controllers feel amazing! It's super convenient in winter since I can connect the small controller and play with my hands in my pockets www

it definitely is worth it! i considered it at first since i've been playing on pc for a while from free games on itch io before but when I found out about otome games officially launching on switch, i purchased it because it lets u play on the go! and being on bed while playing otome on the switch at night helps me sleep somehow as well 😆

There are very switch games that you can't play on a pc, you can always emulate, but there are so many great games that you can only play on a pc. In terms of prices, steam sales tend to be better than sales for the switch in my experience.

As many people said, you should just emulate the few that might be switch exclusive. It's not worth getting an entire console for that if you're barely ever going to use it. I'd recommend looking up on switch emulators, and trying if they run well on your pc/laptop with them.

I bought an SW1 for otome games, but I admit I quit them a while ago, so I would say it's worth it you only want to play many other games too. The last game I was invested in alot is Pokemon Z-A and its DLC was fun for me so I would need like 3-5 console exclusive games to upgrade to SW2 nowadays.

Mhm, I personally bought my switch for otome games only and didn't regret it. Moreover, I got to play games I wouldn't play another way like BOTW, for example. Plus it's very cozy to play otome games on switch... Have no regrets, it was a good decision in the end.

I have a switch lite for playing otome games, and it's pretty great. It's small and light, which makes it easier to hold for longer periods of time. And I can play on the couch/in bed, which is nice.

That's amazing haha! I bought the micro 8bitdo controller, but it's missing a couple buttons, what controller are you using?

My English isn't very good, so I use Google Translate.
I think it's quite worth it. Although you can play it on a computer using an emulator, the Switch still has a more ceremonial feel, and it frees you from your computer desk, so you don't have to sit in a chair all the time. This is especially true for text-heavy games like otome games.

Do you think it's worth buying a Switch console for otome games?
Mhm definitely ~ plus Otomate seems to be willing to keep on making games on Nintendo Switch also there's Amulit (voltage console's brand) ° I find console games better than mobile ones ~

My modded switch paid itself off pretty quickly with how much I was saving - so yes, definitely. Even if you aren't planning to mod - its still a pretty good system.

I think it's worth it if you like the current library of otome games for the Switch. I'm more of a PC gamer, but I do enjoy sitting in bed to play otome games more, it's definitely cozy and relaxing. Once in a while, I do take my Switch to play in long car rides as well.

Buying a new console is more than simply "playing exclusive games", it depends on whether you are comfortable playing on handheld or not.

Switch emulators are advanced, currently all otome games are playable on them. If you like the big screen and feel comfortable sitting at the PC, it is unnecessary to get a Switch right now. Unless you want to play more intensive Switch-only RPGs too, then emulation might not be as good.

It can be useful if you commute or travel a lot, prefer lying down while playing etc but like other people mentioned, the Steam Deck is a strong contender. It is more versatile than a Switch albeit heavier to hold - according to some online opinions.

If you're into Nintendo games like Pokémon, I don't think you'll regret buying a Switch. But if you're only interested in otome games and nothing else really catches your eye, it might be worth waiting until there's a specific title you really want to play.

have to echo those recommending a handheld PC like steam deck. i'm of the opinion that handhelds are best for playing VNs comfortably, even those meant for PC. emulators mean you can play switch games as well as PSP titles, etc.; variety of game shops and lack of region locks means you can take advantage of sales and buy games cheap. (i recommend isthereanydeal for keeping track of sales, hehe.)

given how expensive and limiting they are, it's hard to find a reason to go for any traditional console these days, let alone a handheld one, imo. especially so if you want to play Japanese games without censorship. the one downside is supply (and likely soon, price). AI slop factories are hitting consumers hard right now, fucking up storage and memory supply, so shortages are on the horizon.

good luck getting your hands on whatever you decide on. avoid scam listings if you can, remember if the price is too good to be true, the product is you.
