I'm sure this has happened to all of us - you see an upcoming game that you really like and maybe dev updates start out strong. You get more and more hype to play it and then.. nothing. The updates stop, no more posts or videos or images. No sign of a cancellation, but also no sign of a release date or demo. Before you know it, years have passed and yet you never forgot. The game(s) live on in your mind and heart.

What otome or BL/GL game(s) is that for you? Mourn with me.


My first one is FANTASTICS*TRANS―MaguKare― for PC. The main page for the game shows lovely character art, a theme I love in general (aquatic/ocean) and a synopsis that still peaks my interest. I even liked the music on the page and downloaded it, thank goodness because it doesn't appear to be working anymore on the page on my end.

I found out about it in 2023, when updates were still coming out from time to time on their Twitter page. Just after the new year though, their blog would make one last happy new year update.. and nothing since. Still check from time to time in hopes of anything at all..

This was 8 years ago and you can still see comments as recent as a week ago. We'll never forget Rejet! 😭

I see KeyLaBox being mentioned as far back as 2021! VNDB says this year for release so crossing my fingers that's true.

Edit:However, I am mourning some games I will never be able to play. ASF several times fullfiled my wish for some oldie VN, but in case of mobage, it's lost media (eg https://vndb.org/v2172)

Lost media feels heartbreaking on its own level.. thank you for sharing this! What a shame, Library Cross looks like something I would have tried out. Other game characters appearing sounds even funner!

Double Cross too, did not expect the date to be so far back. Really makes you wish these companies would tweet or something at least once to gives us some closure on these.

after playing club suicide i stumbled upon the information morpath has ceased their activities indefinitely so the game they were working on (inga ouhou murderous plaza) is lost to the void ig. sometimes i catch myself wondering what could have been... i wish everyone involved all the best regardless

Spirit Parade by Lettuce Waltz (released two routes but abandoned the project afterwards). Super scummy and unprofessional considering some people already paid for the full game but couldn't get a refund because it was past the policy period. Devs are still individually making other games (on other teams) but never even released a statement officially abandoning it or clarifying why.

It's a shame because the concept was so interesting.

Queen's Crown by Agashi. Had a fully funded Kickstarter but was completely abandoned afterwards.

Dunno if it counts as boylove since it's boy on futa. But the dev for EROTAS II would update pretty regularly and even released the game, but in game is an area hyping up DLC.. then the dev vanished from the internet. No more updates and no more activity on their social media.

praying they will shed literally any dorico news during rejetfes since that's finally happening again after so long

as for indefinitely dead in the water…gikei from aromarie. LIKE YEAH WE HAVE PART OF IT W THE NOVEL but really wanna see the game realized in our lifetime 😭

For a moment - I thought of the many doujin games lost to hard drives 😅

It'll be SHALL's planned 3rd game, Eternal Time ~Toki no Tobira~ (romanisation is my own guess)
They created the Eternal Hope ~Eien no Kibou & Eternal Lord ~Joou no Koibito~ games. From their blog update (2013), they lost a lot of data intended for the game. 😭 It has a really interesting setting too.

Their website and blog are still around (phew!) - hope they're doing well even if the game remains unfinished.

Caramel Mokaccino... It was fully funded on Kickstarter back in 2016, but the project lead and artist DejiNyucu has been MIA for months now. The last update was in 2024 and their own team members were unable to contact them either. It's a shame because it seemed like a promising and cute otome game too, especially since DejiNyucu has worked with Sakevisual before in the past for Jisei... so I thought they would be trustworthy enough to create their own game and support it.

Ouka Otsu （櫻華堕つ）, a BL game where a (morally reprehensible but also very cute) mad scientist from WWII has to team up with people he traumatized in order to survive postwar SF bullshit.

If you know you know. Had a whole-ass year long marketing campaign that covers parts of the common route in magazines, music samples, ebooks and everything.

Awwwwww that remind me a lot of BL games that never out saddly
i dont know if you remember Vividcolor ( creator of silver chaos, maid hajimemashita etc.. )
they never realised the game about "Tenshis" and the company went to bankruptcy
other game that never realised but the artist made other visual novels is this one" BL "

Several indie games I was following many years ago never got finished. Some were stuck in idea stage with no demo. They were English projects.
For example there was a Kaguya-hime project, the character art are uploaded on their blog (can be viewed in the CHARACTER drop-down menu on top) I thought the story concept and artstyle looked nice.

Waxwing and Hocus Pocus Prince - I was enarmored with the art and their occult idea back then. Too bad both games got abandoned.

The Pirate Mermaid had me waiting for years before I accepted that it would never be finished. There are not many games with such themes, it is regretful.

There should be more but too much time has passed and I have moved my attention to newer games instead of thinking about them.

ughhh pirate mermaid..truly an unfortunate loss. to this day i think their ui elements and the way they implemented them are some of the best I've seen for an indie otome

trying to think of any other mermaid otome…theres a voltage one iirc but that's all i got. would love to see that as a setting explored more someday

I'm seeing more and more talk of this on Twitter and I do agree. AI use is insulting in any circumstance (aside from small task mitigation), but especially for a title we've all been waiting for, for almost a decade?

From what I saw Rejet hasn't made a statement one way or the other, but you'd think if it weren't true they'd be quick to deny it.. it's troubling.

yeah, its just so ???

praying there wont be any use of it in the actual game (but then why use it in the pv to begin with). we asked for dorico and iwaD squeezed the hell out of the monkey paw i guess 😭💀

Yes, when my friends showed it to me, it was in Vyborg, but then it turned out that it was abandoned.

KeyLaBox should be out in 2026 though! I hope it'll go smoothly!

My biggest regret might be Crimson Royale remake that should have been released on PSV but QR shut down before that... Also that ambitious English indie Haikyuu otome game (where you were supposed to be able to date all players from all schools even if you start as a Karasuno student). It stopped at the demo and you can't date anyone... I need a Haikyuu otome game, goodness. The only ones available are for oikawa or aoba johsai in general...:akazukin_down:
I mean yeah it's nice but what about the others??
