what makes you want to play a game?

I prioritize the genre and characters. If the genre appeals to me, I'll give it a shot first. If I like it, I usually end up falling for a specific character. If I started the game because of a character, I'll stick with it even if it's a bit rough, as long as it's not terrible. But if the story is great too? Then it goes straight into my all-time favorites.

The art style and character design are the first things that grab my attention and make me want to play a game. I know it's a bit shallow, and I've played games with art styles I didn't love that ended up being amazing, but I feel like the art style is what draws me in. Once I start playing, though, the story/writing needs to be good to keep me invested.

I'll want to play if I like the art/character designs(especially the MC), if I like the VAs, if it's not poorly translated, and if it's not made using AI.

I care the most about the story in these games, so I will probably decide to play based on the premise, what the game is about and what type of story I think it'll be. I also care a lot about the MCs in these games (they should become my favourite character), and they may actually be the most important factor in whether I like or even enjoy the game at all. So I'll look up the MC and her profile to see if her character interests me (it's especially important for me to check whether it seems like she's respected and treated as a complex character) and decide if I want to play based on a combination of that and my interest in the premise. And while playing the game, the most important thing to me is the story and writing (including the character writing, especially for the MC).

Actually, I started playing games because I wanted to take on different roles in different worlds. I love experiencing various identities and lifestyles, and embarking on all kinds of adventures. But later, I became too reliant on walkthroughs, and it kinda turned into just reading visual novels haha. The advantage of text-based games over novels is probably the added voice acting, visuals, and music www. Even if the script isn't great, the beautiful visuals still make it enjoyable. Of course, for interactive otome games like Hana Awase New Moon, I focus more on the gameplay. Sometimes I don't even play for the story—I just want to play Hanafuda (flower cards) hhhh.

For me its a mix, if based on first impressions then art is a big factor. Whenever i see a title with pretty art, I'll most likely check out the game. But I also like playing games that I don't vibe with the art if the story and characters are good.

For visual novels, art and story are the two biggest things to me. The art is usually what catches my attention first, but if it has a story line that doesn't seem very interesting to me I can't really bring myself to fully complete it < / 3

The game summary and how well it can entice me. If you can snag the player's attention, you have a foot already in the door. The character design and art style definitely is a bonus, but it's how the game is presented to me at first that matters.

Mainly the character design and the story! I tend to avoid games that doesn't have any characters that appeal to me from the get-go (since I don't want to force myself to play through a game where I'm not interested in anyone), then I move on to if the story sounds interesting enough.

mostly the plot and what is about!
of course the art is something to add but what is a good art without a good plot....

I can't pick one element, it is important for me to look at different aspects. Such as whether there is at least one guy that I like among the cast of characters, does the plot have any mystery, what is the gameplay like, is does the art look nice and match the game's vibe. However I also consider myself as quite lenient when it comes to trying things, maybe because the first games I played were small ones that did not look good, yet they give me nostalgia. I am willing to test different games before making a decision to continue.

And for me writing can salvage bad art but not the opposite. It is hard to describe but, with pretty art, the game will inevitably reach a point where I see the same backgrounds and the same character JPGs over and over, the only new art awaiting will be CGs that I have not unlocked, if I get bored I don't care about seeing new CGs anyway. However good writing and good story can still evolve in a game and captures my attention.

But my mood overrides all else. If there is a day I feel like playing a lighthearted game with no plot or pick up something I used to drop, I will.

Yes! Being able to self insert is very important for me when playing these games, so anything that adds to that is a really good element for me.

There's no denying that a game's art style is what initially catches the eye. After that, it's the background and setting described in the game introduction. But the most important thing is still the gameplay. Especially when someone recommends a game to me, it's the content of the game that moves me the most.

Most of the time (difficulty + good gameplay) or a good story or the possibility of making stuff while having fun.

I like OSU because it's difficult the music is good and feels rewarding to win with a good score.
I like Hytale because it lets me build cool stuff, feels like what Minecraft should have been years ago.
I like Visual Novels because I get to see good stories that will remain in my memory until I die.

Art style 100%

A game's art style is usually the first thing that catches my eye. If the character designs and overall visuals are appealing, I'm much more likely to give it a try

usually the artstyle is the first thing that makes me want to play a game, but the plot plays a big role too

An interesting premise and passable art. After that I've dropped a lot of games for being poorly written/translated or just boring though
