Trying to install Oyako Rankan, but i get mojibake.

I have locale set as Japanese, and i see that there are some installer fixes, but nothing works. Can anyone give me some more info/help?

So, when i try to install via iso file, i get an error mid install and the installer closes. You can see mojibake on the title itself, and same when you continue to install.

I tried extracting the iso manually, and running the game, but i get an issue on game start and it just closes. Hope that makes sense. And yes, i did change locale to jis, i added utf support and removed it. I also extracted from rar with jis encoding

try to open the game with locale emulator, even if your system region is japanese already

interesting. i downloaded the game from another forum (f95), and it doesnt even need to be installed. applied the update patch, and once again had no problem with the launch at all. on the other hand, the link from anime sharing is quite old. so, maybe you should download from f95 too?

thats so weird D: do you have japanese language installed? thats the first recommendation people make when talking about switching locales. also try to run it with a virtual machine maybe?

Yes, i have the japanese language and the locale changed and utf support. (i tried w/ and w/o it).
How did you get it running, i'm confused. Other visual novels seem to work without any issues.
I really don't wanna use the english patch though, since i wanna read it in japanese w/ hook to learn japanese :)

i dont know what to say because the f95 link worked just fine for me in the sense that i just unpacked the archive and that was basically it.. im really sorry for not being any help;;;;;

Ok finally figured it out, holy cow

You have to turn OFF the UTF-8 support AND restart the PC

After that it works like a charm. I was starting to pull out my hair, but now it's working fine without japanese locale emu or anything else!

Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it none the less

I was about to download the game and test it for you. For starter, we would never enable UTF-8 support. I have been keeping my PC Japanese locale since forever and I don't see any problem for convenient access.

It helped me with another visual novel, though i don't remember which. I think i had to switch locales between english and japanese and the utf-8 solved it.
Thanks, will keep it in mind, for now i'm glad i can enjoy vns again
