Otome/BL Games: How does a Spanish speaker play them?

FIRST OF ALL, I'M GOING TO USE A TRANSLATOR, SO SORRY IF THERE ARE ANY INCONSISTENCIES.



I've been playing otome games since I was 12; I'm 24 now, so I have some experience playing games in any language. I mainly spent my teenage years playing otome and BL games, but recently I've started trying some GL games—not many, but I'm slowly getting there.



I discovered many websites with games, translation patches, and other things. So, if anyone is interested in game recommendations, learning how I play them (what translators I use, etc., there's more to it than just TextTractor, haha), knowing if I have the files for any games (note that nothing is mine; I got everything from this forum or similar ones, so I'm not claiming ownership, I'd just upload mirror links, I suppose), or knowing what emulators I use on my PC (I hardly ever play on my phone because of the language barrier), or just chatting, that would be interesting. (I have to stop being a ghost, I'm forced to :( hahaha)

If anyone speaks Spanish or English, we can exchange social media handles or something and talk about games, if you'd like, of course.

Now, the last otome game I was trying is Akazukin to Mayoi no Mori - 赤ずきんと迷いの森, taking advantage of the fact that I'm on vacation, but BEWARE, I haven't progressed much yet because Mr. Wolf betrayed my trust hahaha. I mean, I have experience with the fact that in 18+ games there are almost always situations of abus*, but I was still surprised that the route I chose, who seemed to be the typical kind guy, treating her like a little sister and all that, turns out to be that hahaha.

Reminder to Spanish speakers that there are quite a few spanish patches for PC games(even some that don't have any in English)!^^

Also yeah maybe a texthooker works? Like how people who don't know Chinese or Japanese play games

Hi, first of all, are you more comfortable with English or Spanish? Right now I'm using a translator to communicate here in English.

Look, to begin with, it's known that some games have Spanish as a primary or secondary language, and there are even translation blogs where people upload patches for Spanish. That's how I started with otome/BL games. But there are also translators, for example, I've tried:

- textractor (tt): I've used it for years. It's not the best because it doesn't work with all games, but it does help. It opens as a small window on the side of the screen or wherever you want to put it, and it translates to the language you choose.

- Capure2Text: This one is more tedious. You have to press a combination of keys (at least two) to capture a section of the screen, and it translates it for you (I mainly used it in games that tt wouldn't translate). However, it has its limitations because it doesn't capture all types of text.

- MORT: I don't fully understand this one yet, but I've been testing it, and at least with English text, it translates it well into Spanish. It automatically translates everything it sees in the selected section of the screen.

- LunaTranslator: This is the one I've been using for the last few months. I love it because it has the function of injecting the text into some games. Not all of them, but in those where it can't, a window opens on the side and translates it there, like tt.


- Besides, when I started a few years ago, I only knew that to play games originally in Japanese you had to change your PC's Unicode settings to Japanese. But I recently discovered something called a Locale Emulator, which helps you play games that would only work on PCs with Japanese Unicode settings, without having to change those settings all the time.

If you're interested in any of these programs, or all of them, let me know and I'll give you a more detailed explanation of whichever one(s) you want. I'm not an expert, but I can help with how to get them, which tutorials to follow, and so on. I can also give you links to all the blogs I usually follow (translation blogs or blogs about getting games).

Yes, as you say, there are many blogs that are specifically dedicated to making patches; in fact, I follow some of them.

On the other hand, I know four translators that I actively use for games that are only available in Japanese, Chinese, or Korean.

I also speak Spanish, I just use Textractor with Deepl and call it a day. I also read it in English because it's less awkward than reading in my native language. If the translation is wonky, I won't notice it as much, but there are cases like with the English translation of Meiji Tokyo renka... So horrible even for me.

Talking about translation blogs, what was your first otome? Mine was Ijiwaru my master so famous between hispanics because the Spanish patch.

I'm not hispanic, but I'm a native Portuguese speaker. I remember playing all the Spanish translated games before learning English, since they were easier to understand and had bigger communities

Ijiwaru my master was one of the first ones I played as well! Quite a wild ride for starting on the genre haha

It was my first game too! I remember it was one of the few translated into Spanish back then, haha.

I played it when I was young too, i was like 13, i got many bad ending of returning to real world and rapey things, Eins made me love the red flags
