I was wondering about otome character archetypes that are popular outside of the -dere types, and I'd like to learn about different tropes that you wish were more known!!

Although I enjoy the more popular yandere and older brother LIs, I really like chuunibyou and NEET/hikikomori characters (the latter shows up a bit more), like Anghel from HatoKare and Kouta from Sweet Fuse. Seems like I usually go for unstable and anxious LIs

On the other side, I dislike the donkan/oblivious LIs, since their routes can be quite frustrating!

Do you have any less known LI types that you like (or dislike)? How they compare to the more popular -dere LIs you also enjoy?

I realised I like genki guys with a touch of darkness, not sure if it is deredere plus a bit of yandere/kuudere flavour?

It is up for debate if that's the type, but I do not like shouta characters. From the visage to their archetypical personality, just no, sorryy. 😶‍🌫️

Characters like that remind me of the two-faced/secret yandere routes, like Toma from Amnesia

As for shouta LIs, I'm not into them as well, but I don't really mind their routes as much.

i love chuuni characters a lot as well !! i wish we had more lis like that T^T

yanderes are a favorite of mine but kinda of adjacent to them are the haraguro type of love interests which i also adore since i love the angst / betrayal and sometimes fear that comes with those characters

i dont know if these are proper archetypes but i also love lis that have low self-esteem or the ones that are clumsy with affection !! it's something i find so sweet and always end up craving for :D

I love Chuunibyou but I only know Garaiya from from Shinobi, Koi Utsutsu, why are so few chuuni in otomes? :akazukin_cry:
I also like deredere characters, but there are few as well.

Ohh haraguro are nice as well! If you've played DiaLovers More Blood, Kou Murakami falls into the archetype as well.

Low self esteem characters have a lot in common with the NEET types as well! Haha

Recently I've started to really like is the otaku with a hint of tsun LI's. I really liked Harumi in Lover Pretend and Shiiba from Blackish House, very teaseable very cute. It's fun seeing the characters themselves be weebs in the game like us.
Another archetype I've been down for lately is dandere(well it's not that uncommon) like Senri in Norn9, Aoi in Magikyun, Utsutsu in Hana Awase. It's so rewarding when they finally let their guard down and go full deredere!

I don't think there's a particular archetype I dislike tbh, as long as the character is likeable or well written then I'm down for anything!

Deredere are more popular in galge as far as I'm aware, but they can be very cute!

Yeah, most chuuni I've seen are in indie otome (found some on freem), but commercial ones I only know Garaiya and Anghel (I haven't played the fandisk for Ninkoi yet). Some games have chuuni side characters as well

I feel the same way towards otaku characters lol! Il Fado from Cafe Enchante comes to mind. Blackish House is on my backlog, guess I should bump it up a little!!

Dandere are not that uncommon in otome, but they're less frequent than in galge for sure.

Yeah! Il Fado is the reason I'm looking forward to Cafe Enchante, cutie otaku my weakness...
Buraha is kinda hard to begin at first but it's so drama filled and a pretty neat slowburn, it only gets better!

I don't know how popular they are, but I like characters who seem like they might kill the heroine at any moment. It keeps things exciting!
Like Dialovers Kanato, Virche Lucas
And I'm actually fine if they don't get a happily ever after.. I mean they probably had it coming lol..

I usually like green flag LI, genki, himbo and extroverted personality type, with some of them ended up as haraguro(two faced LI) lol. what a twist when it happened on my very first time otoge experience with Masaki from Love Revo.

I'm okay with some being haraguro or even yandere LI because this element is fun/intriguing/entertain me sometimes, even better if MC can fix them.

But yandere type that i despise a lot is the type that manipulates people even worse if MC didn't realize it until the end. Its stressed me.

i find the yandere/obsessive type to be the most entertaining and enjoyable, however i find myself a little scared off when they're the type to excessively manipulate and hurt the people around the mc or even mc herself. i also like the extroverted/genki character type or the sweet & clingy golden retriever type with a little darkness or complexity.

i tend to avoid from shouta, brother-type and kuudere characters.

I like zannen na ikemen types, which I suppose would translate to boyfailure lol. You know, the type who looks all cool and collected and respectable, but then they open their mouths and idiocy falls out? The variant where they successfully try to be cool for the most part but then something catches them off guard and they become a flustered idiot is also great.

I think that means I like gap moe in general....though, the straightforward puppy guy is also good!

Not too fond of Oresama types, especially if they're do'S on top of it. If they're fail Oresama it's fine, but if they play it straight I don't tend to like it very much. This type is rarer these days, though.
