Am I the only one waiting for utapri games to be localised? I have always been a big fan of the anime and I just couldn't understand why they won't localise the games. They even pull the plug on the mobile rhythm game years ago... I miss it so much 🫠

I always thought it was kinda sad that the developer seems to cast the utapri franchise aside in the last few years. Currently there's the Japan exclusive mobile game UtaPri Live Emotion, it's a rhythm game as well.

They did release a teaser recently for the UtaPri Dolce Vita console game that was announced back in 2016, but it doesn't show much, just announcing that they're working on it. It's also Japanese exclusive (as of now). I think Shining Live is also supposedly receiving a Switch port in Japan later this year.

Seems like they don't want UtaPri getting out of Japan. Which is confusing since I think they do have a lot of foreign fans, do they perhaps think that they would be losing money if they localise it?

Yeah, some developers avoid the western market with worries regarding piracy (like Rejet). Utapri has moved away from the otome game and now focuses on joseimuke and idol games that are more profitable, but even those haven't been localized lately. And it's such a loved franchise as well!

i was really interested in utapri in the past, but ever since they shifted from otome and more into idol franchise, i dont know anymore. it kinda sours the entire experience for me, especially since theyre trying hard to push nanami away to attract a new crowd. it is very weird that there are no otome games localizations, considering how huge utapri was even back in the day, but i guess its just japanese devs being japanese devs.. not the first time either, since we already have dialovers;v;

Broccoli has this problem with their older games, and I think Reject's games are even worse in terms of localization. I mean, at least Jack Jeanne and Illusion of Itehari got localization, but Reject doesn't have any official ones as far as I remember. They have so many good titles, but almost none of them get a chance to be localized. I think it's outrageous that Black Wolves Saga still doesn't have an official translation. I'm waiting for UN:LOGICAL, but since Broccoli is the publisher, there's a chance it won't have any official translation, but I'm hoping.

It's really sad that Haruka got pushed out like that :((
I have played one of the games and really loved seeing her trying her best to be a published composer in different routes <3

im a firm believer that otome heroines are like 50% of the beauty of otome games overall, so seeing them being denied the existence so blatantly is just so depressing.. to me at least;;; well, we still have a bunch of old utapri games, but since theyre very unlikely to be localized, experiencing them will be a pain if you cannot speak/read japanese;;;!

It's a rather hackneyed topic, but broccoli addressed this very question at an earlier shareholders' meeting, stating that utapri is an IP focused exclusively on Japan. In truth, it's not just the english community that shows little engagement; Asian communities outside Japan are similarly uninvolved. While anime adaptations have at least been screened in regions like South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan over the past couple of years, the games themselves have seen virtually no localisation whatsoever. Moreover, due to development constraints dating back to the PSP era, there have been persistent difficulties in extracting the game files, meaning no unofficial translations exist either.
