Some user may need the crack to work.
I think it does not need a crack if you played the DL version before.
Or it might just be a first time check that works after you successfully ran the game at least one.
Just delete all the files in save.

can I play the 1.0.2 version with the DL version without the crack? thank you, I tried the other version, not DL version, with the crack and I still encounter a random window asking for serial number. Im going to try again and see if I can work it out.
