My first anime ever was Shonen Ninja Fujimaru, from the 60's. They aired it in my country as Samurai Kid. It was really awesome and made me love anime from the very first minute till the rest of my life !! :D I wish I were able to have all episodes... I think Youtube has just one..

I also recommend Toradora. I've just finished watching all episodes, it's great and there are lots of hilarious stuff. Excellent chemistry among the characters, specially the two main ones.

Being on a Mac OS X world, I ended up using VLC. Not too many alternative options out there like we have in the Windows arena. But I'm pretty happy with VLC. It's really capable performance-wise.
