What do I need to see from Gundam to catch up on the series?

Hello!! I have never seen anything from Gundam, the mecha genre is not one of my favorites, but this last season of Gundam I see that people say that it is very good.

So, my question is, as a person who has never seen anything about Gundam, and knowing that the anime is very extensive and that it has many seasons and movies.

What seasons or movies are the most important to watch in the series, to be up to date? Thank you very much for the answers.

Gundam is not a singular series. It's a brand used for several completely separate series timelines. The latest series Witch from Mercury has nothing to do with any other series, other than the use of the Gundam brand and tropes.

So if you want to watch Witch from Mercury, then just start at season 1 of that, it has nothing else to catch up on. If you want to watch Iron-Blooded Orphans, just start from season 1 of that, since it doesn't have anything else.

Where the crazy expansive stuff comes in is with the original series and timeline, known as the UC timeline. That's where the latest movie Hathaway takes place. And that timeline has been ongoing since the late 70s, which is why its go so many series within it.

But if it's not within the UC timeline, it's within its own contained timeline unrelated to anything else. So if you want to watch Gundam Seed, you only have 2 seasons to worry about, and the new continuation that's in the works. Gundam 00 and Gundam Wing for example are completely different universes and have no relation to each other.

TLDR;
The Witch from Mercury has nothing to catch up on, it's a self-contained series with the Gundam brand, start with season 1 of it.
