How come accounts that registered from years ago say that they are new members?

I just saw an account that was registered in 2018 that still had the new member thing on it (there were probably even older ones too). Is membership status based on how many posts you have made instead of years? Because most of them haven't really posted anything.

Yes, membership status is based on your posts and interactions. Look at my account, for example; I haven't been here very long, but I already have "Active Member" status. But if you're worried about membership to access the links, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you interact normally with groups without spamming, you'll get access soon :)
